Testing For Disease Presence 14
Importance of Testing ● Testing is important to limit the spread of COVID-19 in facilities ● It is possible to be infected and spread COVID-19 even if staff or residents do not have symptoms or before they begin to show symptoms ● Many of CO’s residential care workers come from communities that have been impacted by COVID-19 the most: People who identify as Black, Latino, or Indigenous, immigrant communities, and other communities of color are at a greater risk of getting the virus and having worse outcomes
Testing Support If you need test kits or assistance with testing in order to meet CMS or State requirements, utilize the State Lab’s Testing Resource Request Form

Staffing
Staffing Challenges Residential care settings were experiencing staffing shortages prior to the pandemic • COVID-19 has exacerbated these issues, particularly for facilities experiencing an outbreak Staffing shortages primarily among direct care staff, Qualified Medication Administration Personnel (QMAP), and nurses • Difficulty recruiting workers and high cost to using staffing agencies 26
ConnectToCareJobs.com ● As of 8/25/2020, there were 735 job seekers on the site, and 85 employers who had registered (an additional 82 employers had pre-registered) ● New providers are being added to the site ○ Day Programs added in late July ○ Working on respite, home care and home health ● New Colorado Specific Webpage Created ● ConnectToCareJobs Flyer Available 27

Health & Wellness / Equity 29
Health and Well-being ⮚ Goal to develop strategies to address physical, mental, and cognitive health of residents and staff while continuing to assure their safety ⮚ Examples of concerns that we'd like to address: ▪ Isolation among residents ▪ Staff burnout and stress ▪ Indoor & Outdoor visitation ▪ Communal dining ▪ Evidence-based best practices in science, ie. Vitamin D 30
Health Equity ● Long-standing systemic health and social inequities have put many people from racial and ethnic minority groups at increased risk of getting sick and dying from COVID-19 ● Factors that contribute to increased risk: ○ Discrimination ○ Healthcare Access & Utilization ○ Occupation ○ Educational, Income, and Wealth Gaps ○ Housing ● The Residential Care Strike Team is elevating this issue as a priority for work moving forward ○ First action will be to disseminate an informational letter to staff about their increased risk for COVID and their employment rights 31
