3 Background What does our state and federal legislative platform do? • Serves as a policy guide to align City/SFDPH mission to serve and protect the health of all San Franciscans. • Allows SFDPH to make recommendations to the City to take positions on state and federal legislation.

5 2017 State Legislative Session Legislature Composition Legislative Session Senate (27 D/ 15 R) October 15, 2017 ended President the first year of a two year Gavin Newsom (D) legislative cycle. Over President pro tempore 2,500 bills introduced, Kevin de Leon (D) approximately 600 went to Assembly (54 D/ 25R) the Governor’s Desk for President signature.
