With gratitude for this church dedicated to St. Paul, in Key West, Florida, in the Diocese of Southeast Florida, we celebrate one hundred years of prayer and praise by God’s faithful people in this building, and on this site for generations before. “ Locus iste ” Anton Bruckner Holy temple of God the Father; A holy place and set apart by God, Righteousness within its gates
Our help is in the name of the Lord; The maker of heaven and earth Let us pray. Everliving Father, watchful and caring, our source and our end: All that we are and all that we have is yours. Accept us now, as we re-dedicate this place to which we come to praise your Name, to ask your forgiveness, to know your healing power, to hear your Word, and to be nourished by the Body and Blood of your Son. Be present always to guide and to judge, to illumine and to bless your people. Lord Jesus Christ, may St. Paul’s always be a temple of your presence and a house of prayer. Be always near us when we seek you in this place. Draw us to you, when we come alone and when we come with others, to find comfort and wisdom, to be sup- ported and strengthened, to rejoice and give thanks. May it be here, Lord Christ, that we are made one with you and with one another, so that our lives are sustained and sancti- fied for your service. Holy Spirit, open our eyes, our ears, and our hearts, that we may grow closer to you through joy and through suffering. Be with us in the fullness of your power as new members are added to your household, as we grow in grace through the years, when we are joined in marriage, when we turn to you in sickness or special need, and, at the last, when we are committed into the Father’s hands. Now, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, sanctify this place; For everything in heaven and on earth is yours. Yours, O Lord, is the kingdom; And you are exalted as head over all. Amen. Christ is Made the Sure Foundation Westminster Abbey The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Almighty and everliving God, we humbly pray that, as your only-begotten Son was this day presented in the temple, so we may be presented to you with pure and clean hearts by Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen .
Almighty God, to whose glory we celebrate the dedication of this house of prayer: We give you thanks for the fellowship of those who have worshiped in this place, and we pray that all who seek you here may find you, and be filled with your joy and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. - Thus says the Lord, See, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me, and the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple. The messenger of the covenant in whom you delight—indeed, he is coming, says the L ORD of hosts. But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap; he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the descendants of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, until they present offerings to the Lord in righteousness. Then the offering of Judah and Jerusa- lem will be pleasing to the Lord as in the days of old and as in former years. The Word of the Lord . Thanks be to God. 1 How dear to me is your dwelling, O L ORD of hosts! * My soul has a desire and longing for the courts of the L ORD ; my heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God. 2 The sparrow has found her a house and the swallow a nest where she may lay her young; * by the side of your altars, O L ORD of hosts, my King and my God. 3 Happy are they who dwell in your house! * they will always be praising you. 4 Happy are the people whose strength is in you! * whose hearts are set on the pilgrims’ way. 5 Those who go through the desolate valley will find it a place of springs, * for the early rains have covered it with pools of water.
6 They will climb from height to height, * and the God of gods will reveal himself in Zion. 7 L ORD God of hosts, hear my prayer; * hearken, O God of Jacob. 8 Behold our defender, O God; * and look upon the face of your Anointed. 9 For one day in your courts is better than a thousand in my own room, * and to stand at the threshold of the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of the wicked. 10 For the L ORD God is both sun and shield; * he will give grace and glory; 11 No good thing will the L ORD withhold * from those who walk with integrity. 12 O L ORD of hosts, * happy are they who put their trust in you! - Since God’s children share flesh and blood, Jesus himself likewise shared the same things, so that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by the fear of death. For it is clear that he did not come to help angels, but the descendants of Abra- ham. Therefore he had to become like his brothers and sisters in every respect, so that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make a sacri- fice of atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself was tested by what he suffered, he is able to help those who are being tested. The Word of the Lord . Thanks be to God.
