How can the solar energy industry be successful in Somalia? • Somalia is the perfect country for solar power plants. The annual yield would reach 2GWh / MWp • It's absolutely necessary to choose high-quality technologies • The project preparation : -the geological survey of the soil - monitoring and topology of existing grid - source topology (the proposed number of panels and their orientation, selection of cables with a UV resistance, …) - and of course: the right selection of technology, I personally recommend technology from Europe

Government support • Almost every government should support Renewable Energy Resources • The legislation should guarantee: - priority access to the electricity distribution grid - financial support for each kWh produced - loans with low interest rates • At my last meeting with the minister of power industry of Somaliland he said that he will try to do as much as he can to support this sector
In fact, the Sun delivers more energy to Earth in one hour than all the people in the world consume in a whole year, making solar the only renewable energy source that can keep up with global demands.

• They are bi-directional meters • They measure the active energy flow in both directions • Smart meters are not always needed • If the meter is not bi-directional there is a big risk- electricity supplied may be recorded as consumption
• An inverter is a DC/AC converter • Reliability, efficiency and parameters are very important • Critical components: electrolytic capacitors and filters • Inverters with cheap components cause the increase in THD (total harmonic distortion) values
• What can be done to ensure quality in the sector? • Focus on quality technology • The financial pressure on manufacturers is huge and even the renowned world producers are forced to install cheap components in the inverters • Cooperate only with suppliers who are able to customize the electronics and use only high-quality components • Install technologies only from suppliers who have a service center in Somalia and trained personnel • Prefer technologies with the possibility of remote diagnostics and software upgrades over the Internet
