Discussions with the Community and Legislature • WSDOT discussed Montlake Market with legislators:  Potential to avoid disturbance of building  Estimated $20 million cost to preserve market operations  Property’s contamination • Legislators could not support added project costs, but wanted to address community’s interests 6

Legislature’s new directive • New proviso in 2019-2021 transportation budget • Directs WSDOT to:  Offer lease to Montlake Market until Jan. 1, 2020  Identify area on or near market property for temporary market or food service to operate during construction  Sell market property after Montlake Project complete … 5 to 6 years sooner than previously planned 7

What does the Legislature’s new directive mean? • WSDOT needs gas station and market property • Close and remove gas station • Clean up soil and groundwater contamination • Close and remove Montlake Market building • Sell property after Montlake Project • Work to provide an area for a is completed – about six years temporary market / food service sooner than previously planned during construction 8

  9. Next steps • May - June 2019:  WSDOT and property owner reached sale agreement  Negotiate temporary lease with gas station  Negotiate Montlake Market lease to Jan. 1, 2020 • Summer 2019:  Close gas station  Additional soils and groundwater testing 9

  10. Next steps, cont’d • Summer-fall 2019:  Confirm cleanup plan  Begin gas station cleanup  Offer current Market operators opportunity to operate temporary market or food service  If current operators decline, solicit offers from other potential market or food-service vendors 10
