  16. INCLINATION EFFECTS? ✗ 16 17th Virgo Mini-meeting @ Strasbourg Observatory (19 June 2010)

  17. SOME MIPS RESULTS (I) ‣ simple result: lower SF ==> lower dust T 17 17th Virgo Mini-meeting @ Strasbourg Observatory (19 June 2010)

  18. SOME MIPS RESULTS (II) 18 17th Virgo Mini-meeting @ Strasbourg Observatory (19 June 2010)

  19. NORMALISED S 24 & S PAH VS. FIR COLOUR 19 17th Virgo Mini-meeting @ Strasbourg Observatory (19 June 2010)

  20. 24 μ m SURFACE DENSITY VS COLOUR 20 17th Virgo Mini-meeting @ Strasbourg Observatory (19 June 2010)

  21. 24 μ m/3.6 μ m as a function of Concentration ❇ ANAEMIC HI-RICH (HI DEF < -0.1) NORMAL SF MESSY/IN A PAIR ★ TRUNCATED W ONGOING PRESSURE • TRUNCATED W/O ONGOING PRESSURE + TRUNCATED ANAEMIC ◦ TRUNCATED COMPACT Anaemic galaxies have lower 24 μ m/3.6 μ m in the inner 30% relative to the outer 70% due to a higher density of older stellar population in the middle HI-rich galaxies have higher 24 μ m/3.6 μ m also good to compare this to David’s sample 15th Virgo Mini-meeting @ Columbia Univ. (16 July 2009) 21

  22. Spitzer Dusty Outflows 22 17th Virgo Mini-meeting @ Strasbourg Observatory (19 June 2010)

  23. PAH outflows & upturns Aim: to present SPITSOV galaxies which show dusty upturns and nuclear dust outflows Right: Galaxies with PAH upturns away from the main disk 16th Virgo Mini-meeting @ Yale Univ. (24 November 2009) 23

  24. 16th Virgo Mini-meeting @ Yale Univ. (24 November 2009) 24

  25. Galaxies with nuclear PAH outflows Near-future work: ‣ measure quantitatively the significance of these outflows ‣ investigate why PAH outflows exist for these galaxies (.. especially NGC 4694) 16th Virgo Mini-meeting @ Yale Univ. (24 November 2009) 25

  26. Summary Global IR colours of SPITSOV are similar to the IR colours of star- forming galaxies irrespective of environment or spatial distribution G with weaker 70 μ m span a larger range of FIR colours -- smaller galaxies are more dependent on recent star formation history Mid- and far-infrared colours do not correlate with inclination Proxy for SSFR (S 24 /S 3.6 ) shows some correlation to 70-160 μ m colour (hotter global T --> more likely to be able to heat dust to T ≥ 100K) No strong correlations are found for PAHS because there are destroyed in strong radiation fields and are dependent on metallicity G with anaemic SF appear to have colder global dust T 26 17th Virgo Mini-meeting @ Strasbourg Observatory (19 June 2010)
