Soils and Fertilizers Research institute is the leading Research Institute in the field of Soils and Fertilizers in Vietnam, to aim the following main tasks: To build research orientation and implementing Scientific Research planning on soils and fertilizers to serve Government Agricultural production planning.
The main Functions and Tasks 1- Researching, validating and applying new technologies to protect, stabilize and improve soil fertility aiming at effective use of land resources and fertilizers 2- Producing, testing and verifying the quality of fertilizers and other nutrient-containing products 3 - Undertaking information, training and technical advisory works.
Major activities 1. Leading institution in fundamental survey of soil resources, compilation of methods for soil classification and mapping.
2. Research on Soil, into relation with plant nutrients and improvement of fertilizer use efficiency Research on fertilizer efficiency, balanced fertilization and developing rational application method for main crops Setting up of national standards of soil, fertilizer and plant analysis methods.
3. Soil Environment Research Research on Soil Environment (pH, EC, CEC, texture, Bulk density, Ca++, Mg++, N,P,K, C(%), P, K, N available, Cu, Cd,Pb,Zn,Mn,(mg/kg) and Microbiology (CFU/g soil) Research on soil Environmental polution. 4. Microbiology research Gathering, storing, researching and utilising soil micro-biology resources for pr producing micr oducing micro-bio bio-fer ertil tiliz izer ers ; anti anti-plant plant diseas diseases es ( by fun fungous s gous spor pors.. s...) .)
5. Transfer technology on land use and plant nutrient • Undertaking information, training and technical advisory work relation to management and use of soil, fertilizers and soil environment
6. Research Collaboration • It has been playing important role on building capacity for young researchers, strengthening/improving Scientific knowledge, appliances; and funding for research activities to approach advanced science and technology. • Recent years SFRI collaborate with following organizations: IRRI (INSURF), IWMI (MSEC), IRD (DURAS, MSEC-Biomco, PAMPA, JEAL Bio GEAQ) PPI, Cirad, CIAT, ACIAR, WORLD VISION, ICRAF, ASL-network, socio-forestry, RURBIFARM/EU, AusAID ….

Collaboration with IRD • MSEC (1998- up to now) (1998-2007 funded by IWMI; from 2008 is being funded by IRD) • DURAS (2005-2008) funded by MAE (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) • PAMPA (2009-2012) is being funded by AFD (French Agency for Development • Biocosm • UMR211-BIOEMCO: JEAL bioGEAQ (Mr. Tr.A. Duc: Institute of Chemistry) (2010-2012) • Mesocosm (2010-2013)
INVOLVE IN LMI LUSES • From SFRI : 5 pers. Dr. Toan; Dr. Tien; mr. Phuong, mr. Hai, mrs. Thuy, Dr. Phai • From IRD : • Dr Didier Orange (IRD), Dr Pascal Jouquet (IRD), Mr Jean-Louis Janeau (IRD), Mr Mathieu Laissus (IRD-VCI) et à venir : Dr Emma Rochelle-Newall (IRD).
INTERESS OF sfri FROM lmi • Capacity BUILDING in the analysis of ecosystem services in tropical agrosystems, • Evaluate the impact of various land use and cropping systems changes on important regulating (C sequestration, regulation of water flow and soil erosion) and supporting services (soil biodiversity, soil nutrient cycles) of the ecosystems.
Package involves • Nutrient Cycling • Biological Diversity • C Sequenctration • Water Cycle and Erosion • All the research results of activities which SFRI as a partnership of LMI LUSES will be co-sharing possibilities for the LMI group
