About the Panel NAESP’s new principal panel is the first and only national program dedicated to gathering and sharing the experiences of new principals in rural, urban and suburban schools across the country. The panel is open to NAESP members and non-members. Who Qualifies : Elementary and middle-level principals in their first or second year as a principal (Note: Refers to the number of years in the principalship, not the number of years at a specific school). What Panelists Do : Panelists participate in four to six online surveys each year on a relevant topic. Each survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete. What Panelists Get : Helpful information and rewards! After every survey, panelists receive the survey results and resource recommendations from their peers. AND, participants completing multiple surveys will receive a special Thank You gift from NAESP or one of our sponsors. Who’s on this year’s panel? 25% of the respondents to this survey were brand new principals – just starting your first year. And 75% are comparatively old pros, with at least a year under your belts. Gen Xers are still the majority, but Millennials are on the rise! • 3% are under 30 years old • 34% are in your 30’s • 46% are in your 40’s • 17% of you are over 50 What are your schools like? • About half your schools now include Pre-K • Almost two-thirds – 64% – of you are leading Title I schools
Did you hit the ground running this year? Most of you opened your schools feeling pretty well prepared… Overall, 72% of panelists gave yourselves scores of 7 or higher on a 10 point scale. Welcome news for first year principals – experience adds up quickly, and it’s clearly smoother the second time around! There was a positive difference between first and second year principals on this measure: While only 22% of first year principals gave themselves an 8 or higher on the readiness scale, that number increased to 49% of principals who’ve had an extra year’s experience.

NAESP Virtual Book Talk Building Creative Capacity in Schools May 1, 2017; 4:00 p.m. EST
