Technology readiness level (TRL) Where a topic description refers to a TRL, the following definitions apply, unless otherwise specified: ฀ TRL 1 – basic principles observed ฀ TRL 2 – technology concept formulated ฀ TRL 3 – experimental proof of concept ฀ TRL 4 – technology validated in lab ฀ TRL 5 – technology validated in relevant environment (industrially relevant environment in the case of key enabling technologies) ฀ TRL 6 – technology demonstrated in relevant environment (industrially relevant environment in the case of key enabling technologies) ฀ TRL 7 – system prototype demonstration in operational environment ฀ TRL 8 – system complete and qualified ฀ TRL 9 – actual system proven in operational environment (competitive manufacturing in the case of key enabling technologies; or in space) NCP Flanders 10

  12. SME-instrument - Phase 1 • Feasibility study • International expansion viability • Technical and commercial aspect • Characteristics • Fixed funding: 50 kEUR • Duration:  6 months • Proposal:  10 pages • Output : elaborated business innovation plan (v2.0) NCP Flanders 12

SME-instrument - Phase 2 • Actual growth project • Support the necessary innovation activities • Include demonstration, but remains pre-market • Characteristics • Funding: 70% of project budget (0,5-2,5 MEUR ) • Duration: 12-24 months • Proposal:  30 pages • Output: "investor-ready” Business plan (v3.0) • Lead to company ready to upscale/grow NCP Flanders 13

SME-instrument - Phase 3 • Coaching, training, networking • Business development /acceleration and management issues • Access to private capital • Phase 1 – 3 coaching days • Phase 2 – 12 coaching days • Characteristics • No direct funding!!! • Comes with Phase2 (or Phase1) funded project NCP Flanders 14

Registration of SME (PIC + self assesment) • Submission through participant portal • Evaluation • by independent experts • outcome: ranked list (+/- 4-6 weeks : letter +ESR • Phase 2 : 120 first ranked = pitch = A/B • ! 2days notice for pitch! • Funding until available budget exceeded • Grant : SME1 : max 1 m/ SME2 max 4m • Speed up? Evaluation criteria • The same criteria as for H2020 • Impact / 5 • Excellence / 5 • Quality / 5 Threshold: > 4/5 on each AND > 13/15 = ranking list • Keep in mind • Resubmissions of proposals is allowed • Only one proposal / project in progress • You can directly submit a phase 2 proposal, but… NCP Flanders 19
