Expectations for the end of Nursery for Literacy To hear and say the initial sounds of words ie p for pig, c for cat To link sounds to the letters To recognise familiar words ie their own name, mum, dad, brother & sisters names, names of shops To talk about the beginning, middle and end of stories To talk about story characters, settings and events To write their own name and be able to copy other letters

Strengthening muscles in hands and arms Large movements- making circles, shapes, 8’s Drawing large pictures – on the ground with chalk Squirty toys-spray bottles, bath toys, water pistols Threading Printing Using pegs and tweezers Clay & dough-cutters & tools
Correct pencil grip • Tripod grip – cotton wool, dot on pencil • Hand dominance – it is usual for for children to swap hands to begin with. • My colouring book & forming letters • Name card
