  3. VDOE Guidance Governor Northam’s Phase Guidance for Virginia Schools was accompanied by comprehensive guidance from the Virginia Department of Education, Recovery, Redesign, Restart 2020. 3

  4. A Scalable Plan As rapidly as data, trends and guidance change, staff recommend a plan that is scalable: ● 100% - All students regular schedule ● 50% - 2 days a week ● 25% - 1 day per week ● 0% - Remote Learning for all students ● Families may elect: 100% Online Remote Learning 4

Considerations for Opening School ● Health and safety are top priorities. ● We believe that instructional goals are best achieved by maximizing in-person learning. ● We understand the need to provide social emotional supports for students and families. ● We must meet unique needs of vulnerable populations. ● We understand the need to practice daily safety measures to keep students and staff safe. ● We understand that childcare is a concern for many families and staff members. ● School start and end times may change depending on the number of students who request bus transportation. 5

Students with Disabilities and English Learners All K-12, Students with Disabilities (SWD), and English Learner (EL) students will be given the opportunity to attend 4 days per week. • Face-to-face instruction and Virtual instruction will be offered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. • Schedule will be determined by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team with parent consent. • English Learners K-12 will receive direct language instruction from EL specialists according to their individualized EL plans. In addition, accommodations and classroom differentiation, based on proficiency levels, will be provided by classroom teachers in all classes. 6

Parent Choice after First Quarter Reassessment ● For the Second Quarter, parents will have a choice of TWO programs: Face-to-Face ○ 100% Virtual ○ ● For the Second Quarter, parents who wish for their students to participate in face-to-face instruction should register for the face-to-face program. They will be placed in classes with their assigned teachers. ● When parents select the program for their student (100% virtual or Face-to-Face), their selection cannot be changed until the end of the first semester. 12

High School Hybrid Learning Plan ● One-half of students attend school two days a week ○ Group A- students attend Face-to-Face instruction Monday and Thursday with students completing school assignments at home Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday ○ Group B- students attend Face-to-Face instruction Tuesday and Friday with students completing school assignments at home Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. ● 100% virtual program students will receive instruction Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with Wednesday being a home assignment day ● Students assigned to the Danville Alternative Program will attend Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday ● Students assigned to the Extended Day Alternative Program will attend Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday ● Students will be responsible for four classes each semester 16

Phase III Considerations ● New instruction will be provided and assignments will be graded for all students. ● Blended learning, which includes Face-to-Face and virtual learning, will be used to deliver instruction. ● Students with disabilities will be served according to their IEPs. ● English Learners K-12 will receive direct language instruction from EL specialists according to their individualized EL plans. In addition, accommodations and classroom differentiation, based on proficiency levels, will be provided by classroom teachers in all classes. ● The AG, Academically Gifted, resource teachers will also work through remote learning with online class options for enrichment for students. Differentiated instruction will be provided in order to challenge and meet the needs of academically gifted students. 17

  18. Electives and Exploratory Classes ● Students will be given the opportunity to participate in classes that allow students and staff to follow safety guidelines. 18

Student Registration Process for Learning Programs ● Programs 100% Virtual o Face-to-Face with Virtual and Home Assignments (Face-to-Face will be delayed to o 2 nd Quarter) A Registration School Reopening Form will be sent to parents which ● will allow them to select how they want their child/children to attend school. Completing the form for every school age student in the household allows staff to o plan for instruction, transportation, and meals for every child. As of Monday, July 27, 2020, parents can access the form on the DPS webpage o and forms will be mailed from each school with a return stamped envelope. Deadline for completion of forms is Friday, August 7, 2020 19

Health Safety in the Schools ● Physical Distancing is the primary constraint limiting the number of students on buses and in buildings at one time. ● Face coverings, health screenings, frequent handwashing and physical distancing are required mitigation strategies. ● Face coverings must be worn by all students and staff. This includes on Danville Public School buses. ● Visitors in the building will be by exception. There will be few instances that visitors are allowed in the building. Most contact will take place by phone or Zoom. Staff will meet visitor at door to help with needs. Appointments or calls ahead to the school are strongly encouraged. Visitors must wear a mask while at the door of the school talking to staff. 21

Maintenance & Operations School Reopening Plans: Installation of automatic systems where applicable (paper towels, ● automatic flushers, hand sanitizer and soap dispensers, etc.) Installation of plexiglass in main areas as needed ● Water fountains will be disabled; bottled water will be provided ● Daily cleaning of high-touch areas (door knobs, railings, desks, ● counters, etc.) Custodial teams (2 school teams) will work according to a deep ● cleaning schedule 22
