Your Ticket to Scholarship Dollars • FILL OUT THE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION!!! • Available on-line November 1, 2019 - February 3, 2020 • Found on the Engineering Scholarship or Financial Aid sites
Where to look for the Application? http://www.engineering.iastate.edu/scholarships/cu rrent-students/ • Also accessible from the College of Engineering website. • Hover over “Current Students” and click the ‘Scholarships and Financial Aid’ link. • Click on the ‘Current Students’ link and then the application link in the tan box. • Once there, click “sign in” in the upper right corner of the screen. You MUST be signed in to access the application.
Before you fill out the application Make sure you read “Scholarship Application 1. Instructions and Tips” on the scholarships page prior to starting. Make sure you save as you go. It will not auto 2. save when filling out the application. Complete both the General Application and the 3. College of Engineering Application. This is the only way to be considered for all engineering scholarships.
Filling Out the Application • Fill out the form online • Type responses in a word processor first • Allows you to cut/paste into Internet page • Good practice to save a record of your responses each year • Tips on form: • Some degree programs have formal options (i.e. BSE, ConE, CE). If your department has formal options and you have not yet declared one, you may want to consider doing so to become eligible for additional scholarships. • List as many activities, work experiences, etc. as possible. • Be clear and concise with your answers. Some of the essays have character limitations.
Filling out the Application • Some scholarships have financial need as a consideration – need to submit and finalize FAFSA no later than December 1 to be considered for these. • If you have a continuing commitment (National Merit, General College of Engineering Scholarship, etc.), you must still fill out the College of Engineering Scholarship Application! Fill out the ENTIRE application • Be specific, the more specific you are, the better we can match up • scholarship criteria Freshmen can include high school information, including activities, • leadership, etc. Graduating December 2020? Still Apply! •

Finalizing your Application • When you are finished, please remember to hit the “Finish and Submit” button. If you only click “ Save ” and not “ Submit ”, your application will not be considered. • Email confirmation automatically sent after completing general application, even if you are still working on engineering application. • Can continue editing without negative consequences up until the deadline.
What Happens After You Apply? We review if you are on a continuing award (i.e. merit, national merit, etc) and if you meet the criteria for it to be renewed. Wait for financial need info Send to committee members (scholarship committee has representatives from each department who select recipients) Applications are reviewed – matched to criteria from donor. May be asked to interview for scholarships during the months of February or March. Sent back to college for review and notification All applicants and recipients will receive an email by the end of April If you receive an award, a thank you letter may be required Credit applied to your University Bill (half fall semester and half spring semester).
Other Stuff to Know Scholarships may be affected if: you plan to graduate at the end of fall semester • decide to change your curriculum within or out of engineering • on a co-op or internship experience fall or spring semester • switch to part-time status • fail to submit the required thank you letter • fail to follow the steps required to verify your financial need • If other scholarships sponsored through the Scholarships & Awards Committee become available throughout the next academic year, you will be considered and notified of your selection. If outside sources of funding become available and you meet the eligibility requirements, you may be sent an email with information on how to apply. Thank You Letters Thank you letters will be required • You will receive direction through OneApp regarding this • requirement when you are notified of your award Donors look forward to hearing from recipients • Thank you letter tips are available on the scholarship website • Failure to submit your thank you letter , if one is required for • your award, could result in us rescinding your award.
