S6 INDUCTION JUNE 2020 Leadership * Values * Responsibility * Ownership * Reflection new normal = new opportunities

S6 INDUCTION • A big well done and thank you to you all for your hard work and completion of the all the tasks set so far. • Blown away by your ideas, creativity, enthusiasm and positivity. • We are excited to see what your S6 can achieve. • All of this has been even more impressive against the backdrop of a global pandemic and lockdown. • You have inspired us, can you now help and inspire other year groups?

OUR CHALLENGE • School will be different from what we remember before lockdown. • Pupils out of a routine, people anxious and unsure about our return. • Health and safety, timetable, structure of the day, rules and regulations. • How do we inform pupils in the year groups below about the new normal? • How do we enthuse them, while easing any anxieties? • How can we share the positive mindset that has been built through the S6 Induction and spread the feeling throughout the other year groups, while informing them of how our new normal will look and their important role in making it a success?

OUR CHALLENGE • Final S6 Induction challenge: Hillhead High School Welcome back campaign. • Help with the transition back to school. • A balance between well being, support and new rules (eg social distancing) • Help create a nurturing, welcoming and supportive environment. • First couple of days back in August the emphasis is on well being and transition as we all re-adjust. • How can your S6 help lead this?

GROUP TASK • Work in a small group. • Select a year group, S1-S5 and create a welcome back presentation. This can be in the form of a video, powerpoint, podcast or any other creative idea you have. Deadline for submission: End of day Wednesday 24th June. • Things to think about....... A balance between new rules, expectations and well being. If you chose S1, be aware that many will be nervous about starting high school, making friends etc. How can you positively welcome them plus reassure them? S4 and S5 in particular will have to model appropriate behaviour and lead the younger year groups.

IDEAS What to consider including...... • Idea of Hillhead Team working together. S6 pupils leading from the front. • Sticking to social distancing rules at all times. • Movement around the school. • Helping each other out. • Creating a supportive and welcoming environment. • New normal equals new opportunities.
