ITAL Y Italy is a big boot shaped peninsula in the middle of Europe, rounded by the M editerranean Sea. It is subdivided into 20 regions with 109 provinces. The capital is Rome, which is the largest city and the core of Roman Catholic Church.
I live in the north of Italy, in the region Lombardia, Lecco province. It is one of the most extended, developed and populated.

I live very close to Adda River, one of the most important rivers of North Italy.

Traghetto di Leonardo Designed by Leonardo da Vinci, every day this ferry crosses the Adda river hundreds of times, to bring people from one side to the other. It is very old and it has no engine. It moves with the strength of the man who drives it.

A little bit of history Italy has not always been united as it is today; it was divided in small kingdoms which fought one with the other with several wars. On M arch 17, 1861 Vittorio Emanuele II proclamed the birth of Italian Kingdom (Regno d’Italia) and himself as its king. On June 2nd, 1946 in a popular referendum Italian people decided to turn Italy from a Monarchy into a Republic. A day after this referendum the king of Italy Umberto II di Savoia was exiled. Women voted for the first time. The Constitution was approved by the Constituent Assembly on December the 22° of the following year.
What about now The president of the Italian Republic is elected for seven years and he represents the national unity. At the moment he is Sergio M attarella.
The 1948 Constitution of Italy established a bicameral parliament, consisting of a House of Commons and a Senate, a separate judiciary, and an executive branch composed of a council of M inisters , headed by the Prime M inister. He is M atteo Renzi.
