Objectives( as per MoD ) NCE was established in 2008 under Tripura JICA Project to address the issue of NTFPs and value addition in a comprehensive manner, with the broad objectives viz.. To facilitate database generation and management of NTFP’s To promote and facilitate NTFP activities as a means of livelihood for the masses To disseminate technology information and enterprise development To assist in Marketing To take up Capacity building of various stakeholders in handling bamboo, cane & other NTFPs

Major initiatives in NCE
1. Market research & feasibility assessment – IIFM bhopal 14 commercially viable species were identified jiggat,kali haldi, chopchini, jarul, velvet bean,rubberhoney, gamair, Agar, satamuli, jack fruit,galangal,broom grass, gandhaki, pippali 2 species were taken up – broom grass and gandhaki Later extended to large cardamom

3. Price discovery of large cardamom and gandhaki Through tender, price is fixed Awareness campaign regarding collection and price of the produce Impact - Increase in collection - Good price (Rs. 15/- to Rs20/-) ( as it was sold low @ Rs.3 to Rs.5/- in case of gandhaki and Rs 20 to Rs.26/- in case of large cardomom) - Enrichment plantation from the project taken up
2. Digital Herbarium # 350 species of NTFP’s of Tripura have been documented and exhibited and steps taken that the information can be accessed online at www.nce.gov.in

Comprehensive state policy on NTFP As a registered autonomous society Quantitative resource assessment and inventory of NTFP’s and its documentation Taking up research activities in development of standardized protocol for cultivation, harvesting, processing and marketing of NTFP’s Conducting training programme for various stakeholders and also to offer consultancy services
F UTURE ... Networking with national level institutions for synergy. Extending service in generation of Livelihood through NTFP based enterprises. Certification of major NTFP’s Revenue generation from paid service namely training (both educational and departmental training) and consultancy services Publications on various aspects of NTFP’s in terms of manuals, periodicals and audio visuals.
