“ Responding to the Crisis of Life ” Mark 4:35-41
Mark 4:35-37 35 On that day, when evening had come, He told them, “ Let ’ s cross over to the other side of the sea. ” 36 So they left the crowd and took Him along since He was already in the boat. And other boats were with Him. 37 A fierce windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking over the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped.
OBSERVATIONS 1. You will go through times of crisis “ Crisis ” is defined as: - (1.) a condition of instability or danger, as in social, economic, political, or international affairs, leading to decisive change; (2.) a dramatic emotional or circumstantial upheaval in a person's life (dictionary.com).
OBSERVATIONS 1. You will go through times of crisis 2. In times of crisis there are two general responses.
Mark 4:38-39 38 But He was in the stern, sleeping on the cushion. So they woke Him up and said to Him, “ Teacher! Don ’ t You care that we ’ re going to die? ” 39 He got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “ Silence! Be still! ” The wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 Then He said to them, “ Why are you fearful? Do you still have no faith? ”
RESPONSES 1. The Fearful Response
Mark 4:38 So they woke Him up and said to Him, “ Teacher! Don ’ t You care that we ’ re going to die? ”
RESPONSES 1. The Fearful Response “ Fearful ” - this word means to be timid, fearful, lacking confidence or faithless. There is a sense of acting cowardly. It is not the same word used for fearing God.
RESPONSES 1. The Fearful Response 2. The Faith-Filled Response - In times of crisis we have an opportunity to trust God.

Can affliction or anguish or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: Because of You we are being put to death all day long; we are counted as sheep to be slaughtered.
Romans 8:31-39 37 No, in all these things we are more than victorious through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that not even death or life, angels or rulers, things present or things to come, hostile powers, 39 height or depth, or any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!

Mark 4:39-40 39 He got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “ Silence! Be still! ” The wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 Then He said to them, “ Why are you fearful? Do you still have no faith? ”
Mark 4:41 And they were terrified and asked one another, “ Who then is this? Even the wind and the sea obey Him! ”
Psalm 89:8-9 8 Lord God of Hosts, who is strong like You, Lord? Your faithfulness surrounds You. 9 You rule the raging sea; when its waves surge, You still them.
Psalm 46:10 “ Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! ”
