  2. RESET why? TM Lung cancer has risen 56% in Beijing over a decade, mainly due to air pollution. [1] Cancer is the leading cause of death in China, with lung cancer claiming the most mortalities. [2] 410,000 people (and rising) die each year due to air pollution in China. [3] [1] Beijing Institute for Cancer Research, 2011 [2] He J, Gu D, Wu X, et al. Major causes of death among men and women in China. N Engl J Med. 2005;353(11):1124–34. [3] Beijing Institute for Cancer Research, 2009

  3. RESET why? TM Indoor PM2.5 levels are about 75% of outdoor levels. Buildings tend to be negatively pressurized, pulling particulates indoors and adding them to indoor chemical gasses. [1] Formaldehyde in more than 92% of Chinese households is above the maximum allowable standard. 76% of the households are 5 times higher than the standard. [2] Concentration of individual indoor air pollutants can easily be 100x worse than outside. [3] The average person in Shanghai and Beijing spends 91% of their time indoors. [4] [1] PureLivingChina. Survey in 2010 across 250 people

  4. RESET why? TM Children are more susceptible because their immune systems are not yet fully developed and they breathe in 50% more air per kilo of body weight than adults. [1] PM 2.5 exposure has been correlated with birth weight deficits of 189g and smaller birth lengths of 1.1cm in male infants. 5. RESET introduction TM RESET™ is a project certification that supports human health and environmental regeneration, beginning with Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). It is applicable to offices, schools and homes. Unlike outdoor air pollution, indoor air is fully within our immediate control. By focusing on the choice of materials and indoor air monitoring, RESET™ enables participants to qualify design choices as well as quantify and track results.

  6. RESET Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) TM There are two types of certification, New Interiors and Existing Interiors . New Projects (Full Certification): Full certification is for projects that undergo a complete interior fit-out. It requires the completion of two stages: - Embodied Impact - Operational Impact Existing Projects (Operational Certification): Operational certification is for existing projects that undergo minor retrofits. It requires the completion of one stage: - Operational Impact

  7. RESET Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) TM Embodied Impact: Chemicals embodied in materials off-gas over several years. RESET™ measures these emissions. Full certification requires the documentation of building materials being used within projects. 35% of all finish materials (including substrates) used within projects must have VOC certificates, quantifying their level of off-gassing. These figures must be cumulated by a VOC calculator, estimating whether or not the interior space is at risk of exceeding the maximum allowable limits for harmful chemical gasses*. *Estimating chemical off-gassing for interior spaces is an important new field of research. Although individual materials may be considered safe and within industry standards, assembling them into a project does not guarantee safety of the project itself. To date, little to no correlation has been made between off-gassing from individual materials and the total off-gassing of the final projects. To achieve this, many data gaps must be filled. For example, not all finish and substrate materials have VOC reports. Moreover, those that do often cannot be directly compared if they followed different testing methods. The primary purpose of the VOC calculator is to catalyze demand for standardized testing across all materials, and establish a correlation between laboratory and field results.

  8. RESET Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) TM Operational Impact: Indoor air quality fluctuates according to outdoor pollution levels, temperature, humidity, minor renovations, the addition of new furniture, under-performing mechanical systems (due to a lack of maintenance or simply because they haven’t been switched on) and numerous other variables. Both full and operational certification require real-time monitoring of indoor air quality. All projects must demonstrate they can achieve healthy air results during 80% of occupational time for 3 continuous months prior to being certified. All projects must be re-certified every 12 months.* *RESET™ focuses on results. RESET™ does not require design submittals for systems and spaces. Design can follow any path as long as it leads to good results. This approach helps reduce project costs, supports innovation and makes it easier for projects to adapt to place.

  9. RESET Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) TM Embodied Impact: Quantifying health risk. Full certification provides access to an online TVOC (chemical off-gassing) calculator and a database of compliant materials with their associated certifications. 15.3 15.3 113.5 113.5

  10. RESET Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) TM Operational Impact: Quantifying Results. For both full and partial certification, real-time data is collected via specialized multi-parameter monitors logged into the cloud and streamed to smart phone.

  11. RESET Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) TM Changing the industry. RESET ™ provides an alternative to standard industry practice in which spaces are flushed out, tested, certified and unknowingly left to climb back up to hazardous levels. Hazardous: Beyond measurable level CONSTRUCTION FLUSH-OUT OCCUPANCY PHASE PHASE PHASE (PASS) Healthy level Time 0

  12. RESET Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) TM Certification Standards: Certification Standards for IAQ monitoring are based on international best practices. Relative PM2.5 TVOC Formaldehyde CO 2 Temperature Humidity Unit of Measure µg/m 3 mg/m 3 mg/m 3 ppm % ℃ National 75 ⩽ 0.5 0.08 ⩽ 700 M M Standard International 35 (EPA) ⩽ 0.5 0.12 ⩽ 700 M M Standard RESET requires monitoring for 5 related data points (this will increase to 6 (formaldehyde) in the next generation). These 5 data points are necessary to help identify issues locally and remotely, as well as build operational intelligence.* Levels must be maintained 80% of the time during hours of occupancy, calculated on a monthly basis. *Example: a rapid increase in PM2.5 could be attributed to many causes. In isolation, this data is of limited value. However, when combined with data indicating a decrease in TVOC and a change in temperature and humidity, the cause can be narrowed to an open window or improperly closed door. Similarly, an increase in TVOC could be attributed to numerous causes. Combined with data indicating an increase in temperature and decrease in humidity, this could indicate a south-facing space, heated by solar gain for which the mechanical system is off or under-performing.

  13. RESET Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Monitoring Standards & Specifications: Acceptable monitors must meet the following specifications. PM2.5: Relative Humidity (RH) Type: Near infrared Nephelometer Type: Capacitive Range: 0-200ug/m3 Range: 10-90% Total Volatile Organic Compound (TVOC) Formaldehyde (HCHO) (future) Type: Metal Oxide Semi-Conductor (MOS) Type: Electrochemical gas Range: 0 - 2.5mg/m3 (0 - 1.22ppm) Range: 0-0.2 ppm Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Temperature: Type: Non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) Type: Thermal Resistor (Thermistor) Range: 0-3000 ppm Range: 10-40 Degrees C

  14. RESET Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) TM Certification: RESET prioritizes results. To empower this, the certification plaque is live and streams real-time data. The QR code takes users to a mobile display. A static plaque (bamboo with stainless steel inset) is also available upon request. C E RT I F I E D
