  3.  Reduce: reduce the amount of waste thrown away by buying items with less packaging.  Reuse: before throwing out an item check to see if you can find a new use for it. Use reusable items instead of single use. Donate used clothing. Fix broken items instead of throwing away.  Recycle : if you cannot find a reuse for it and it’s recyclable, make sure it’s thrown into a recycling bin.  Rot: Yard waste and food scraps should be disposed of in the green cart at home. You can even start a compost pile at home for your left over food waste.

  4. Trash bin contents end up buried in the landfill. Only trash that can’t be reused or recycled should go to the landfill. Except for hazardous waste!

  12. A wa water er/soda/j soda/juic uice e bottle tle is #1 #1 PET ET or PET ETE E which ch stands ds for polyethylene. yethylene.

  13. Recycled PET bottles can be turned into polyester fibers, which are used as a  base for products such as fleece coats, clothing, pillows and carpets. PET can also be recycled back into new, single-serve PET bottles that are convenient, safe and recyclable. Recycling a single plastic bottle can conserve enough energy to light a 60-  watt light bulb for up to six hours. Aluminum is made from bauxite.  Recycling aluminum conserves energy. The amount of energy used to recycle  aluminum is 95% less than harvesting virgin material from the Earth.

  14.  Waste reduction, buying, getting, having less stuff is perhaps the most important thing we can do.  Recycling: ◦ saves landfill space ◦ preserves natural resources ◦ conserves energy ◦ is only a part of the solution.  Reuse of goods plays a big role.  The biggest, most powerful changes lie in the habits and attitudes of ordinary people like YOU!
