Severn Trent Water A Case Study
History • Framework supplier for many years. • Solving problems such as: • Noise interference from VSD’s. • False echo recognition. • Long range applications.
History • Approached to develop: Time to spill. Auto reset. Burst rising main and pump blockage. Real time flow. 2 year project.

Real Time Flow
Real Time Flow • 10 sites selected out of 200 Quantum’s already installed. • 2 x 4-20mA outputs monitored for flow and level. • Magflow also recorded as a comparison. • Site data recorded by 8 channel logger to give better resolution. • 6 months worth of data recordings.
Real Time Flow • .7 l/s average between magflow and Quantum. • Recordings over storm and dry weather conditions. • Recorded at 2 minute intervals.
Conclusions • To install a magflow cost £9,500 with flow meter chamber. • Quantum Installation £3,500. (including auto reset function and time to spill alarm) • Auto reset monitored over 2010 in 230 pumping stations. • Successful reset day = no pump failure with an auto reset and the number did not exceed 3. • Working on an average call out cost of £120. • Cost saving = £1,189 per site. • Additional cost saving with Tariff Management. (not yet quantified)
