Why Plan? • It is important for community residents and leaders to understand that planning is important and has an impact on Quality of Life . • Planning is an organized way to anticipate and shape changes for the benefit of the community. • To form a good basis for plan im plem entation - zoning, design guidelines, and capital improvements programming. • A well planned community is attractive, has reasonable taxes/ fees, adequate public services, and is a good place to live and work.
What is Planning? • Planning attempts to form a consensus on important issues that affect the development of a community. • Successful City Planning: Public action that generates a desirable, widespread and sustained private market reaction. -Alexander Garvin
What is a Com prehensive Plan? • “The comprehensive plan, also known as a general plan, master plan or land use plan, is a document designed to guide the future actions of a community. It presents a vision for the future; with long-range goals and objectives for all activities that affect the local government.” • Not a Zoning Ordinance or Subdivision Regulations

Project Objectives Our goal is to assist the community in developing an update to the plan and facilitate a planning process that: • Analyzes current and projected demographic conditions and ties future growth planning to projected land use need . • Examines existing community land use and promotes future growth, both infill and new development, in a manner that enhances the existing com m unity qualities of Oak Grove . • Provides recommendations for road, trail and transportation im provem ents for the community; particularly to new growth areas. • Examines current infrastructure capabilities and provides implementation strategies for any necessary rehab and expansion to serve development. • Coordinates with the community to create an Action Plan for Im plem entation of the Comprehensive Plan.

Stakeholder Interviews – May 20 17 The objective of the interviews will be to gain a better understanding of the growth plans and preferences of departments, institutions, organizations and businesses in Oak Grove. We are primarily interested in speaking with community leaders, members of community organizations, developers, builders, business leaders and other stakeholders. We will schedule 20-25 min phone interviews or email questions to stakeholders interested in discussing the future of Oak Grove. We can also facilitate small (focus) group conference call/ online meeting discussions at the Advisory Committee’s request.
