Introduction  MTC wishes to construct five new mini-towers in the Ludwigsdorf area to improve coverage.  Environmental Management Act, 2007 (7 of 2007)  The Regulations now promulgated - use as framework for this project  Listed activity – EIA process needs to be followed  Enviro Dynamics appointed to assess the potential impact of the proposed project on the surrounding environment.

The EIA Process  What exactly is an EIA?  Legal process  Independent person appointed  Give best available estimate of the possible impacts and effects that could result from the proposed project  Give consideration to the social and ecological environment – information from public  We don’t make the decisions – we provide information to the decision makers to make the decisions

Expectations for this meeting  Share information  on the project  it’s radiation contribution potential  Allow public understanding and input  Forum for the public concerns to be defined and noted  Forum to assess the need and desirability  Boundaries  Not a forum for debate  Not a forum for justification

Issues Identification  Potential issues we’ve identified so far in Phase 1:  Potential health and safety impact – particularly with regard to radiation  Potential increased incidences of lightning strikes  Potential nuisances during construction  ………..?  Purpose of public participation process is to determine what other issues we need to consider.

Concluding Remarks  Public input very important during the EIA process  Ensures that public is informed of the proposed project and provides you with an opportunity to comment and raise your concerns  Next steps  Public Comments Period closes on the 26 th of September 2012  THEN: we’ll analyze information gathered, assess the potential impacts of the project and make our recommendations  Draft report will be circulated again for public review (for 2 weeks) before submitting it to the DEA.
