What is Public Health? • Focuses on the population as a whole and works upstream of acute and primary care • Population Health Approach integrates: – Social Determinants of Health – Healthy Behaviors – Healthy Communities – Population Health Assessment • Partnership with governments, non-government and community organizations is essential for the delivery of this work

Collaboration with Municipalities • Municipalities, including those in Middlesex County, have played and continue to play a vital role in many of the Top Public Health Achievement of the 20 th Century. These include: – Motor Vehicle Safety – Clean Water and Sanitation – Tobacco Control Policies – Fluoridation of Drinking Water – Supporting a safe and healthier food systems

Municipal Funding • MLHU municipal funding requests have been held at 0% for the last 14 years
PBMA • Every health organization has limited resources and the need to make choices • A resource allocation process that aims to – Better align resources with strategic priorities and objectives of the organization – Improve transparency and rigour (for greater accountability) – Improve staff/public ownership of decision making process • MLHU has been able to reallocate over $7 million of our $35 million dollar budget to maximize the impact our services have on the community.
