  2. PSALM 133 If it is good and pleasant for us to dwell together in unity, then it is sad and horrible for us to dwell together in disunity. This Psalm is a Psalm of Ascent: Song sung by worshippers on their way up to the Temple Also involves looking back to see what unity has done/ and disunity has undone Therefore, we must strive to maintain the unity of the body of CHRIST. UMOJA

  3. PSALM 133 We do not need uniformity if we possess unity: A. Oneness of life B. Oneness of truth; C. Oneness of the Way D. Oneness in Christ Jesus E. Oneness of Spirit When these are absent, we become churches of contention rather than churches of Christ! Oneness is the work of the Holy Spirit Since we are imperfect beings, some of the evil is going to intrude, but it is neutralized and easily ejected by the true love and unity of God’s children… love covers a multitude of sin! 4. WHY UNITY (PSALM 133:1) Genesis 11:6 - "Look!" he said. "The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them!” Good for ourselves Good for our brothers and sisters in the faith Good for new converts Good for nonbelievers Good for our community Notice, the psalmist uses the word “how” twice (How good and How pleasant) to emphasize the exceeding excellence of such a condition UMOJA

  5. WHY UNITY (PSALM 133:1) So the whole world would believe in Jesus the Christ (John 17:21, Romans 15:5 – 6) There are two ways of being united; one is by being frozen together, and the other is by being melted together. What Christians need is to be united in brotherly love, and then they may expect to have power. UMOJA

  6. RUNNING DOWN (PSALM 133:2) Christ is our head and this unity flows through Christ to His brothers and sisters. From the church, unity flows into our families; society; and politics Unity leads to sanctification This is what sets the church apart This makes us different from every other organization of human origin Allows us to each be in the world, not of the world UMOJA

  7. RUNNING DOWN (PSALM 133:2) Coming together is a beginning: keeping together is progress: working together is success in the Christian assembly for: As One Flock, we are gathered together—John 10. 16 As One Family, we dwell together—Ps. 133. 1 As One Body, we are joined together—Eph. 4. 16 As One Temple, we are framed together—Eph. 2. 21 As One Household, we are built together—Eph. 2. 19, 20 As One Kingdom, we are to strive together—Phil. 1.27 As One Church, we are raised up together—Eph. 2. 6. UMOJA

  8. RUNNING DOWN (PSALM 133:2) Unity leads to the Presence of God forever: (Psalm 133:3) A. Mt. Hermon = Sanctuary B. Zion = Parched Place C. When the dew of Hermon flows to the parched place (Zion) it provides the most refreshing picture of what GOD does through unity D. Unity brings water to dry places E. Parched souls find the presence of God in sanctuaries bound by unity F. Unity breaks barriers Breaks barriers of race, class, and culture UMOJA

  9. RUNNING DOWN (PSALM 133:2) Unity is fulfilled in Jesus the Christ (Ephesians 2:14 – 22) JESUS is called the root of David Jesus came through 42 generations (Those are the generations between Abraham and Jesus) Jesus is the fulfillment of what unity means We all become one at the foot of Calvary’s cross Jesus came to make us one, taking away the dividing lines (Why did we rebuild the lines?) UMOJA
