Enhancements • Assigning of Age group coaching leaders (teachers) • Adding a 2nd day of training (OPTIONAL) • Academy style training by age and gender (All players in age group will train on same day at same time) • Saturday games will be played with “small sided” numbers (4 v 4, 5 v 5) TEAMS will still be a part of what we do on Saturdays.   4. Objectives • Provide consistent training for ALL within age group • Create a more engaging, educational, less stress experience for volunteer coaches that wish to be involved • To make sure coaching instruction is consistent • To promote coaching development The Soccer Club of Guilford

Assigning Of Age Group Coaching Leaders • Each age group will have a coaching leader (teacher) to work with and facilitate training exercises through volunteer coaches • Age group leader will facilitate training day exercises along with volunteer coaches • Director of Recreation Soccer will work with coaching leaders on appropriate content and exercises. Adding A Second Day Of Training • Allows for family flexibility if conflicts arise – Example: Monday / Thursday, Tuesday / Friday • Allows for MORE soccer should a player want it • More training obviously means more opportunities to develop technically (ONLY priority at these ages) The Soccer Club of Guilford

Academy Style Training By Age And Gender • All players in age group will train on same day at same time • Players will train/compete/socialize with a larger group of players (not just one team of players) • Consistent training provided for all in age group • Players can build more friendships • Players can compete with and learn from the other players • Ability for staff to group players of similar abilities during “street soccer” parts of training session The Soccer Club of Guilford

Game Play • Games will be played with “small sided” numbers (4 v 4, 5 v 5) TEAMS will still be a part of what we do on Saturdays. • Games will be played team v team as formed within SCOG. • Priorities on Saturdays morning should be the continuation of the technical work done during the week.   9. Why Small Sided Games? According to US Youth Soccer • Because we want our young soccer players to touch the soccer ball more often and become more skillful with it! (Individual technical development) • Because we want our young soccer players to make more, less-complicated decisions during the game! (Tactical development) • Because we want our young soccer players to be more physically efficient in the field space they are playing in! (Reduced field size) • Because we want our young soccer players to have more, involved playing time in the game! (More opportunity to solve problems that only the game presents) The Soccer Club of Guilford

  10. Why Small Sided Games? According to US Youth Soccer • Because we want our young soccer players to have more opportunity to play on both sides of the ball! (More exposure to attacking and defending situations) • Because we want our young soccer players to have more opportunities to score goals! (Pure excitement) • Because we want to include children of all temperaments, assertive to shy, to have more opportunities to interact with others and the game!
