UNICEF TEAM PRESENTATION TO THE ACADEMY COUNCIL
WE BEGAN WITH SOME UNICEF ASSEMBLIES TO DISCUSS WHAT HAVING CHILDREN’S RIGHTS MIGHT MEAN FOR OUR SCHOOL.
Article 1- All children Article 12- your right to say have the same rights what you think no matter what- Rosa Parks and be listened to Black History Article 24- your right to good Article 31- your right food and water- Harvest. to relax and play . SINCE THEN WE’VE DISCUSSED HARVEST, BLACK HISTORY, BEHAVIOUR, DEMOCRACY, PUNCTUALITY AND ATTENDANCE – AND LOTS MORE!
WE’VE BEGUN TO UNDERSTAND THAT ALTHOUGH ALL CHILDREN HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS, THEY DON’T ALL GET THEM.
EACH CLASS DECIDED A CLASS CHARTER LOOKING AT THE RIGHTS THAT EACH CLASS WANTED TO FOCUS ON.
WE WROTE MANIFESTOS AND READ THEM OUT TO OUR CLASS. THEN WE VOTED IN A SECRET BALLOT.
THE BEST MANIFESTOS SHOWED THAT WE HAD REALLY LISTENED TO OTHERS AND HAD SOME GOOD SUGGESTIONS OF OUR OWN TOO!
UNICEF COUNCILLORS MEET WEEKLY – WE ARE THE VOICE OF OUR CLASS AND WE DECIDE WHAT WE NEED TO FOCUS ON.
OUR CURRENT CAMPAIGN IS TO DO WITH AIR POLLUTION. WE WENT ON A WALK TO COMPARE TRAFFIC AND POLLUTION IN CHORLTON.
WE’VE WRITTEN TO ONE OF OUR LOCAL COUNCILLORS, EVE HOLT, AND SHE’S COMING IN TO VISIT US IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS.
PUPIL VOICE- WE’RE STARTING TO HEAR MORE ABOUT WHAT OUR FRIENDS CARE ABOUT AND THE CHANGES THEY WANT TO SEE. WE THINK THIS MAKES OUR SCHOOL A HAPPIER AND HEALTHIER PLACE TO BE.
WE FEEL LIKE WE’RE LISTENED TO MORE • WE GET MORE SAY ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS IN OUR SCHOOL WE FEEL LIKE IT’S A HAPPIER AND HEALTHIER PLACE
