About the presentation: ‘Food f or Thought’ is about the critical importance of diet in mental health . At 35 minutes in length plus 15-20 minutes Q&A, the presentation is designed to fit neatly within a lunch break or an hour’s slot. The talk begins with some shocking statistics in relation to the prevalence and increase in mental health with a focus on depression. Some of the common factors and potential causes that underpin mental health and other chronic diseases are summarised next. The main focus of the presentation is unveiled; nutrient deficiencies. tim-rees.com
A closer look at how and when the brain developed is presented in order to show the importance of certain nutrients within our diets. One of the most important nutrients is introduced here, a specific type of fat. Of critical importance is the understanding of how fat works with brain chemicals that allow us to experience life; feelings, emotions, including joy and happiness . Those chemicals are neurotransmitters. They include serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline. They are targeted by all of the current pharmaceutical drugs used to treat depression which have a ~60% success rate but carry a host of side effects. “The brain chemicals needed for you to experience life, joy and happiness are built in the body by the nutrients from we get from foods” Discussed next is the way in which vitamins and minerals are added to broken down proteins to make these critical brain chemicals. All is clearly explained; step by step. tim-rees.com
Once this has been firmly established the epidemic of nutrient deficiency in the world is revealed; over 2 billion people are micronutrient deficient (vitamins and minerals) and 1 billion are protein deficient – not only in developing nations. “2 billion people are micronutrient deficient [vitamins and minerals] and 1 billion are protein deficient” Studies that show deficiencies in the UK general population are referenced and those nutrient deficiencies that link directly to mental health issues are highlighted. The best sources of the most important foods for brain health are discussed as well as vegetarian options where appropriate. Studies are referenced to add credibility and scientific weight to the presentation. tim-rees.com
After discussing the best sources of these important brain foods, the focus then switches to the 3 dietary culprits most likely to disrupt good brain health. Three important lifestyle changes are then recommended. tim-rees.com

Customer Testimonials: [05.06.2019] “Tim Rees came into YM & U Group [formerly James Grant Group] to deliver his presentation on mental health and nutrition. We are a market leading international management company representing elite clients in Sport, Music, Drama and Entertainment and are only too aware of how mental health can affect both our clients and staff. Tim has an inspiring story, managing to overcome the odds and regain his own health by using the approach in his presentation. As Executive Chairman of YM & U Entertainment Division, I was delighted to see and hear how my staff responded to the information he presented. There was a little complexity in the subject matter, however he made sure everyone in the room clearly understood the implications and he was very willing to answer any questions diligently. I had never really considered the intricate link between nutrition and mental health until Tim talked us through it, but it made complete sense and has encouraged us all to consider making key changes to our diets. We get many speakers here at YM & U Group and I received lots of responses from many members of the team saying Tim’s had been a standout presentation this year, he made them feel very inclusive and feeling they had come away from the presentation considerably more knowledgeable. Thank you very much for your time.” Darren Worsley Executive Chairman – Entertainment YMU Talent Agency, London. tim-rees.com
[04.06.2019] “Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is a charity set up specifically to help men with suicidal depression because it has reached epidemic proportions in the UK. We always look to add strategies so that we can help more of these men before they become too desperate. Tim came in to talk to us about the link between food and depression. Tim’s talk has highlighted to us the importance of dietary choices and mental health. He showed us how the brain runs on the food we eat, or should be eating, and how junk food can take such a toll on our mental health. It all makes perfect sense once it’s explained. He isn’t trying to sell us a cure-all, it’s a common sense approach that can be applied the same day. We are a straight-talking bunch and were firing questions at Tim throughout, he dealt with them all brilliantly. We particularly enjoyed the Q&A session and Tim’s passion for sustainability was very clear. We are planning on working with Tim, as Calm's nutrition ambassador, in the near future to help in our mission to reduce male suicide. It is very clear that diet must be a feature of this approach. Thank you, Tim, for your very engaging talk. Simon Gunning CEO CALM, Campaign Against Living Miserably. London. tim-rees.com
