Purpose • Engage and obtain comprehensive information on the training needs of SMMEs which constitutes a critical component of compiling the CATHSSETA SMME strategy • To identify training needs, a great deal of strategic research has to be conducted in order to derive a skills development strategy for CATHSSETA
Purpose cont … • Consult and share skills development information with CATHSSETA stakeholders, with special emphasis on SMME involvement • Inform the CATHSSETA Sector Skills Plan document in relation to the occupational shortages and skills gaps in the sector • Encourage cooperation between levy-payers, non- levy payers and training providers in addressing the skills gaps within the CATHSSETA sector

Sector training needs Identification of sector training needs for planning purposes will include: – Issues impacting small businesses – The type of training that is crucial to SMMEs – Reasons that cause small businesses not to participate in CATHSSETA programmes. – Suggestions of reaching small business operators.
Workshop outcome • CATHSSETA will produce a comprehensive consolidated skills report that will indicate some of the following key results: – Identification of key groups of SMMEs, NGOs, NPOs , Trade Unions, their sectors and skills shortages; – Regional plans for small businesses which CATHSSETA could support through skills interventions
