Prese sentation n con onte test Prem: Senior Div-P-$4, B-$3.75, R-$3, W-$2.25 Prem: Junior Div-P-$3, B-$2.75, R-$2.25, W-$1.75 Phelps County will host an invitational 4-H Presentation Contest with 4-H’ers from other counties being invited to participate and use this contest as their official contest. The contest will be held in Phelps County and participants will follow the rules and guidelines of this county. Your home county will be responsible for ribbons and premiums paid. Any currently enrolled 4-H member, enrolled in any project, may participate in the 4-H Presentation Contest. Pre-registration is necessary for the contest. A 4-H Presentation, given by one (1) individual or a team of two (2) individuals, is a live presentation with a formal talk where youth will use visual aids (such as props, posters, computer-based visuals, handouts, video, etc.) to show and tell others how to do something. Presentations are given on a state/platform. Judge views the entire presentation and engages in a question and answer session following presentation. A Teaching (Trade Show Exhibit) Presentation, given by one (1) individual or a team of two (2) individuals, is a live, interactive, trade show style presentation where youth will continuously engage a constantly changing/moving audience for 30 minutes by showing and telling them how to do something while answering questions. Judge occasionally stops presentation to ask questions and observe audience engagement. A. Participant Requirements: • County Contest—Senior Division – 4-H members 12 years old and up, January 1, current year • County Contest—Junior Division – 4-H members 8-11 years old, January 1, current year. • State Fair Selection—county fair judge will select the county representatives for the State Presentation Contest. • All participants must be 10 years old by January 1, current year to be selected for State Fair Presentations. • All participants must have received a purple rating at the county contest to be considered for State Fair selection. • Youth may only participate in one class within Division 151. • All classes require the presence of the contestant (s). • A team presentation consisting of two(2) individuals, may be given for any class. There is no separate class for team presentations. • Time limit in the Senior Division is 6-8 minutes for a presentation given by an individual and 8-10 minutes for a presentation given by a team. Participants may be penalized if their presentation exceeds the time limits. • Time limit in the Junior Division is under 8 minutes for a presentation given by an individual and under 10 minutes for a presentation given by a team. There is no minimum length for the Junior Division. Participants may be penalized if their presentation exceeds the time limits. • Each participant is required to wear one of the following: For the county contest– the approved Phelps-Gosper 4-H shirt, the 4-H chevron, or the 4-H emblem during their presentation; for the State Fair– the State Fair 4-H t-shirt provided to them, the 4- H chevron or the 4-H emblem during their presentation. B. Presentation Topic: • All 4-H Presentation topics should be related to what the 4-H youth is learning through 4-H educational experiences focused on the priorities of career and college readiness, community development, entrepreneurship, food supply confidence, healthy living, leadership development and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). • Enrollment in the project area in which the participant is making a presentation is not required. • 4-H Presentations should include an introduction (the “why” portion of the topic), a body (the “show and tell” portion of the
topic), and a conclusion/summary (the “what” portion of the topic.) • The same presentation cannot be given in more than one Illustrated Presentation class. C. Contest Information: • The Phelps County Invitational Presentation Contest will be held on July 9, 2019 at the Phelps Co. Ag Center in Holdrege. Those presenters receiving a purple ribbon who are selected by the judge to participate in the State Fair contest will be notified of the dates for the State Fair contest. • Equipment provided includes tables, easel, PC Compatible Computer with the following software: Microsoft PowerPoint 2016 with Wi-Fi internet connectivity, and projector. • Presenters using computer-based visuals may bring files on a USB drive that is PC formatted. Participants may also provide their own computer or other equipment as needed; however, participants must be able to connect their computer to a HDMI plug . • Live animals may be used in the presentation. All State Fair Livestock Health Requirements must be followed. Presenters are responsible for all care and handling of the animal(s). Animals can only remain in the presentation area while the owner is present. • State Fair Eligibility: Illustrated Presentation-all participants must have received a purple rating at a county 4-H Presentation contest. Teaching (Trade Show Exhibit) Presentation: any presentation that has been previously shared at the County 4-H Presentation Contest or other event that has a live audience (4-H Club Meeting, Community Event, etc.) is eligible. Premier Presenter Contest—State Fair Contest ONLY Scoresheet: SF65. Senior Division—Class B151112 Each NE County may advance one individual or one, two-person team from the Illustrated Class in the county 4-H Presentation Contest to the Premiere Presenter Contest. All static exhibits must have received a purple ribbon at the county fair to be eligible for state fair and be selected by a judge. Division 152: Teaching Presentation: SF68. Participant Requirements : • A Junior Division for youth ages 11 and under and a Senior Division for youth ages 12 and older is available for the County Contest. To be eligible for State Fair selection, participants must be 10 years old before Jan. 1 of the current year and must have received a purple ribbon at the county contest. • Any Teaching (Trade Show Exhibit) Presentation that has been previously shared at the County 4-H Presentation Contest or other event that has a live audience (4-H Club Meeting, Community Event, etc.) is eligible for this division. • The class requires the presence of the contestant. • Participants will present for 30 minutes in front of constantly-changing/moving audience. • Participants are required to wear the 4-H chevron, 4-H emblem, or 4-H shirt during their presentation. Presentation Topic : A.) Presenters are expected to clean up the areas in which they work. Equipment provided includes one table, one easel and electricity. Live animals may be used in the presentation. All State Fair Livestock Health Requirements must be followed. Presenters are responsible for all care and handling of animals. Animals can only remain in the presentation area while the owner is present.
