Appendix 1 updated. 1 STATEMENT How staff are presented and dressed can have a significant bearing on how the public perceive NIBTS to be run. Operating to the highest standards in all areas of its operations will ensure the maximum number of people become blood donors and return to donate regularly. 2 OVERVIEW In order to maintain the highest standards of personal appearance and hygiene and to uphold the reputation of the Service, the following guidelines are brought to your attention. 3 RESPONSIBILITY All Donor Services staff. 4 POLICY 4.1 UNIFORM 4.1.1 Full uniform or BTS clothing must always be worn whilst on duty (see Appendix 1) 4.1.2 Where facilities allow, staff involved in loading / unloading equipment can change into white tunic / blue tunic before session commences. This must only take place when the session is set up and the staff member must return to their station in time to commence the session. 4.2 IDENTIFICATION 4.2.1 The current practice within the HSC is to provide a pleasant, informal contact with donors, hence you are asked to wear your identification when interacting with the public (security, swipe-card pass with photograph) . 4.3 EXCEPTIONS Managers within NIBTS will adopt a flexible approach where staff cannot adhere to the policy for medical reasons, gender affirmation, and religious requirements or for reasons related to disability.
POL:93:AP:008:08:NIBT PAGE 3 of 4 5 EQUALITY SCREENING OUTCOME 5.1 This policy has been drawn up and reviewed in light of the statutory obligations contained within Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act (1998). In line with the statutory duty of equality, this policy has been screened against particular criteria. If at any stage of the life of this policy there are any issues within the policy which are perceived by any party as creating adverse impacts on any of the groups under Section 75, that party should bring these to the attention of the Head of HR & Corporate Services. The Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service is committed to the promotion of equality of opportunity of staff, donors and service users. We strive to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and that their rights are respected at all times. We believe that it is important that our policy is understood by all those whose literacy is limited, those who do not speak English as a first language or those who face communication barriers because of a disability. On request it may be possible to make this policy available in alternative formats such as large print, braille, disk, audio file, audio cassette, Easy Read or in minority languages to meet the needs of those not fluent in English. 6 TRAINING REQUIREMENTS 6.1 There are no training requirements for this policy.

Admin/Reception staff: Navy fleece with logo Navy jacket or navy sweat shirt with logo Navy trousers or skirt (trousers will be supplied but may supply their own) Navy patterned blouse Black or navy shoes - supply own Navy cardigan B. Session Support Assistants: Navy polo shirts, logo on front / current strapline-message on back Navy sweat shirt, logo on front Navy fleece, logo on front Navy trousers (will be supplied but can supply their own) Black or navy shoes - see note below C. Registered Nurse (RN) / Donor Session Assistants (DSA’s) : Regional registered / nursing assistant tunic Navy sweat shirt with logo, or cardigan Navy fleece with logo Navy trousers (will be supplied but may supply their own) Black or navy shoes - see note below NB: DSA’s with driving duties may also be provided with: navy polo shirts, logo on front / current strapline on back. All involved with driving / loading / unloading vehicles must wear a hi-visibility vest. However, the Regional Nursing Assistants tunic must be worn during session times, In addition, to help promote and maintain high standards of hygiene, safety and appearance on session, staff employed on session duties are required to comply with the following guidelines: Hair - If long, wear “tied back”. Nails - Keep clean and trimmed to prevent injury to donors. Nail polish or nail decorations are not permitted. Make-up - “Day time” make -up is acceptable. Shoes - Black or navy low level shoes are uniform standard. Shoes or sandals with high heels and/or open toes, and boots or shoes with heavy soles (unless of a safety-type) or trainers are not permitted. D. Recruitment & Organisation staff: Red polo shirts, logo on front current strapline-message on back Red sweat shirt logo on front Red fleece with logo on front Navy trousers (will be supplied but can supply their own) Black or navy shoes - supply own Red T-shirt logo on front current strapline-message on back NOTES 1. All staff referred to above to be supplied with one navy waterproof coat with logo, and hood. 2. Where necessary, staff may request safety footwear.
