Career Description / Definition 1 Architecture Planning, designing houses, buildings and other structures. 2 Aviation Opportunities: fly, manage, maintain. WMU’s Aviation Tech Operations. Prepares students for the airframe & powerplant license required by the Federal Aviation Admin to build/maintain or work on an aircraft or work as an aviation maintenance technician. 3 Construction Field The first team on site when a building starts to crack or crumble. This team Evaluation decides which buildings need to be repaired and create a timeline & budget regarding repairs. They evaluate buildings/collect data/put together a plan. 4 Construction Manage the activities or residential construction projects from start to finish. Management 5 Construction Safety Works with State of Michigan. Goes to job sites to make sure contractors are Officer / Inspector doing the work in a safe manner. If not, they receive citations and financial fines. This presenter also is a retired electrician of 21 years. 6 EFE Courses related to Education for Employment courses offered in 11th and 12th grades, relating to the Skilled Trades Skilled Trades areas of: Auto Tech, Cosmetology, Culinary, Dental Hygiene. 7 EFE Construction This course exposes students to many aspects of the new construction and Trades Course revitalization industry including site layout, carpentry, electrical, masonry, plumbing, tile setting, HVAC, painting and other construction skill areas. Through a partnership with the Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity, both male and female students will enjoy the hands-on training experience in remodeling and/or new construction of a home that this course has to offer. 8 Excavating Operate and maintain large earth moving equipment to construct roads, bridges, buildings or other structures. Systems which control the temperature and air quality in buildings. Extremely high demand job field. 11 IBEW International Local union representing the field of electrical work- electricians. Residential electricians install wiring, outlets and provide access to power where needed. 12 Ironwork Someone who makes iron or works with iron. Could build walls, bridges, tunnels or any solid element of a building. 16 MCTI: Michigan Career An educational program with 13 vocational training programs including: & Technical Institute automotive technology, cabinet making, custodial, electronics, commercial printing, machine technology and construction. This educational program is open to any student with a disability, regardless if they have an IEP or 504 plan. 17 Parking Structure Engineers and teams who evaluate parking garages/find problems /create Restoration solutions to repair. Oversee construction teams to make sure the projects are safe and built to last. 18 Pro/Services Maintenance Mechanic’s Journeyman’s Apprenticeship Programs. (Pipefitting) (Assembling and maintaining large piping systems: commercial, residential/industrial. Specialized work in very high demand.) 19 Plumbing Installing and maintaining fresh and black water systems. 20 Registered Learn from the State of Michigan about the many programs available where you Apprenticeships can get hands-on experience, free education/training while earning an income (on the job training), have long term career goals with greater earning potential and have little to no education debt. These programs are National Credentials and are guaranteed to be recognized by future employers. 21 Roofing Repairing roofing systems on commercial buildings. Teams love to work outside/work with their hands and learn different types of roofing systems. 22 Sheet Metal / Fabrication and installation of metal duct systems for moving air around a home Metalworks / or building. Ductwork for the HVAC/R industry to custom metal fabrication for all industry. And Millwrighting Also custom stainless steel work for the food/beverage industries. Services Millwrighting covers a wide variety of heavy industrial areas. They work in large facilities doing everything from building and repairing conveyor systems, setting and aligning large motors, moving large equipment and building large platforms for accessing equipment on multiple levels.
