#PGCPSAttendanceMatters 2019-2020 ● The goal is for every student to attend school every day and on time. ● Regular school attendance ensures your child’s access to a high-quality education and has a major impact on their success from kindergarten through high school ● When students miss too much school — for any reason — they fall behind academically and will be considered chronically absent. ● Chronic absenteeism is defined as any absence that exceeds more than 10 days, 18 DAYS FOR THE YEAR (LAWFUL OR UNLAWFUL)
#PGCPSAttendanceMatters 2019-2020 CHANGES TO ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE 5113 “ATTENDANCE” ● 3 DAYS - # OF DAYS STUDENTS HAVE TO BRING NOTE/EMAIL AFTER A LAWFUL ABSENCE. ● 3 DAYS - SCHOOL MAY REQUIRE A DOCTOR’S NOTE. ● 6 DAYS - SCHOOL MUST REQUIRE A DOCTOR’S NOTE. ● 0 - STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE A 0 FOR ALL ASSIGNMENTS UNTIL A NOTE IS SUBMITTED AND IF THE NOTE IS SUBMITTED AFTER 3 DAYS. ● 20 - CODE IN SCHOOLMAX FOR UNLAWFUL ABSENCES. ● 48 - TEACHERS HAVE 48 HOURS TO PROVIDE MAKE-UP WORK AFTER A LAWFUL ABSENCE.
Here’s how you can help... ● Review the PGCPS updated Attendance Policy ● Make school attendance a priority by setting the expectation of showing up to school daily and setting regular routines, such as finishing homework and getting a good night’s sleep ● Help your child stay engaged by staying on top of their academic progress, seeking help from teachers and encourage participation in meaningful afterschool activities, including sports and clubs ● Try not to schedule dental and medical appointments or extended travel during the school day
