Fresh eshman n Year – Genre Study including plays, poetry, short stories, • and novels both classic and current! They read everything from Romeo & Juliet to The Glass Castle , and so much more! • Sophomo phomore re Year r – World Literature including works from all over the world – Oedipus, Things Fall Apart, Lord of the Flies, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream just to name a few! • Jun unior or Year r – American Literature including The Great Gatsby, Of Mice and Men, the Crucible and more! Senior nior Year r – British Literature & novel studies in contemporary • fiction & non fiction. We read everything from Beowulf and Macbeth to Catcher in the Rye and 1984!

Writing Plan Grades 9 – 12 ■ 2-3 MAJOR papers per semester including instruction in writing argumentative, informative, narrative, and research essays. ■ DAILY writing in all classes including creative responses, journals, reflection, and analysis. ■ AKS based writing assessments at each level ■ Writing instruction includes practice writing for the Gateway and Milestone essays in grades 9-11.

  5. Language Arts Electives ■ NEWS WSPAPE APER – This is a year-long elective course that produces the school’s award winning newspaper, THE PANTERA. Students learn to write all genres of journalistic writing: Sports, Features, Opinions, News, and Features. We do the online & print issues. The class is by application only- students need to see/ email MRS. CAMPBELL for applications. ■ LITER ERAY MAGAZ GAZINE NE/ / Cre reativ tive Writ iting – This is a year-long elective course that produces Pause, Parkview’s Literary Magazine. First semester, students write poetry, short stories, non fiction pieces, and screen plays! Second semester students work on writing contests and doing the layout and design of the literary magazine.

Get to know your teachers and ask questions when you don’t understand! ■ O.W.L. at Perdue: this is an amazing resource and all students should be familiar with its contents. ■ National English Honor Society offers tutoring and writing help in their writing lab.
