  3. Who is North Queensland Bulk Ports? NQBP is a government owned corporation, responsible for the four trading ports of Hay Point, Mackay, Abbot Point and Weipa. We employ more than 110 people at our ports and offices. Our ports are also a place of work for more than 1,000 Queenslanders and support a further 28,000 direct trade jobs in mining, farming and transport. 3

  9. Infrastructure upgrades NQBP invested in infrastructure, training and marketing to improve the facilities at the Port of Mackay and educate the industry on the improvements. Through the Queensland Government’s $144.6M Accelerated Works Program , NQBP was able to invest in significant infrastructure projects: • Mackay Harbour Road upgrade • Wharf four and five fender upgrade • Mackay navigation light upgrade • Vines Creek bridges upgrade (DTMR Project) 9

  10. Infrastructure upgrades In 2018, NQBP completed the replacement of the fender system on wharves four and five, which had reached end of life. Strategic objectives of the project were to: • retain and grow NQBP’s trade by providing upgraded berthing structures • improve flexibility of wharves four and five to accommodate increasing size and type diversification of vessels. 10

  11. Infrastructure upgrades NQBP is focused on increasing the Port’s capability to attract new trade and larger vessels to the region, as well as improve safety, efficiency and flexibility.

  13. Diversifying trade The Port of Mackay is cementing its reputation as a multi-cargo gateway to Central Queensland after welcoming seven RoRo vessels in 2018/19. Large mining, agricultural or other equipment is now able to be shipped directly to the region through the Port of Mackay. 14

  14. Outlook With an expected improvement in agriculture sector investment and upgrades to wharf and transport infrastructure at the port, we are actively seeking strategic partnerships to grow trade and explore opportunities to attract investment. 15
