Strategic Context Increase treatment capacity to meet future service demands (50% of patients should receive radiotherapy at some time during their cancer illness). Advanced state of the art treatment machines and imaging technology Improve access/travelling time for patients from the north west Facilitate Cross Border co-operation with ROI Improve Patient Pathways Provide Linkage to Regional Centers in Belfast and Dublin/Galway The Northwest area has one of the highest incidences and mortality rates for cancer in Ireland
Tumour Sites to be treated at NWCC- approx 90%of patients Breast Lung GI upper and lower Urology (prostate, bladder, kidney) Head and Neck Skin Haematological malignancies
NWCC Service Delivery Local cancer services, surgery, medicine, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and specialist palliative care Cancer services facilities are now all situated in a purpose built facility within the North West Cancer Centre with an extensive on-site multi-disciplinary cancer team to manage patients closer to home. Inpatient ward combined haematology and oncology with capacity for 27 beds operational 7 days a week 24 hours a day. Chemotherapy suite with 25 chairs and 5 single treatment rooms operational Monday to Friday. Outpatient clinic facility with 16 consultation rooms operational Monday to Friday 0800 – 1700

Progress to date Since opening in November 2017, over 600 patients have been treated at the centre, across a range of tumor sites Majority of patients are treated as outpatients Multi-disciplinary approach to delivery of care with both X- rays and MRIs in treatment planning Lung cancer patients are treated with 4D cone beam CT which ensures targeted therapy Cancer Centre has the most advanced immobilization equipment which enables delivery of the high precision radiotherapy required
Progress to date • The percentage of patients who receive the most advanced forms of radiotherapy IMRT is higher than targets set in previous years by the NHS • All patients have daily IGRT (image guided radiotherapy) which ensures the accuracy of treatment • The Centre delivers advanced chemotherapy techniques, it provides day care treatment for oncology and haematology patients
Cancer Access Tragets • 260 Patients seen 14 Day Breast • 100% compliance achieved for WHSCT Target patients • 128 Patients commenced treatment 31 Day Target • 100% compliance against 98% target • 68.0 Patients commenced treatment 62 Day Target • 92% compliance against 95% target
Patient Information and Health & Well-Being • Onsite information hub within the NWCC provides high quality and support free of charge for people affected by cancer. The information hub provides booklets and leaflets on all aspects of cancer, as well as information on local and regional services. Macmillan Health and Well-Being Campus recently opened. The campus will provide a range of services coordinated around the needs of patients and their families. These will include information library facilities, wig fitting services, complementary therapies, counselling etc.
