MPSR EU context (1) Directive 2013/59/Euratom  Transposition of the Directive 2013/59/EURATOM (“ EU Basic Safety Standards”) – Imposes Member States specific responsibilities in Radiation Protection and Safety education and training of professionals, defining: ✓ Radiation Protection Expert (RPE) ✓ Radiation protection Officer (RPO) ✓ Medical Physics Expert (MPE)

MPSR Repercussions and strategic interest for IST  Unique Master´s degree in Portugal, in a strategic area: ➢ Interfaces with Health, Environment, Industry, Regulation, etc., sectors ➢ Addresses Public Health, Environmental, Safety and Security issues  Allows the fulfilment of Education and Training requirements for Radiation Protection professionals, laid in the national legislation as a result of the transposition of the Council Directive 2013/59/Euratom (February 2018): ➢ Will respond to societal issues such as the quality and sefety in the use of ionizing radiation ➢ Will allow the fulfilment of the Portuguese obligations in the areas concerned  It will strengthen the role and the intervention of IST in different activity sectors ➢ Links with health, industrial and business sectors
