  2. Handling hazardous chemicals safely Chemicals in Laundry and Dietary can: � injure your eyes � damage your skin Handling chemicals in Laundry and Dietary • Handle chemical containers carefully • A dropped container can eject hazardous chemicals when you open it! 2

  3. Handling chemicals in Laundry and Dietary • Before you handle chemicals you must be trained to protect yourself from the hazards • If you have not been trained, you cannot handle the chemicals! Storing chemicals in Laundry and Dietary • Store containers securely • Don’t over stack! Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) • Always read the MSDS for the chemical before use 3

Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) • Identify the chemical by it’s label • All chemicals must be labeled Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) • You must put on your personal protective equipment before handling hazardous chemicals – Go g g le s – F a c e shie ld – Che mic a l re sista nt g lo ve s – Ap ro n Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) • Make sure your personal protective equipment is in good repair and clean • Make sure it fits! 4

  5. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) • Place you personal protective equipment in the designated location when you are finished Eye washing • Eyewash stations must be located in all Laundry and Dietary areas Eye washing • Know the location of the closest eye wash station and how to use it 5
