  2. Public Health improves community health through educatjon. Oakland County Health Division (OCHD) employs a diverse stafg knowledgeable about a variety of health topics. The Oakland County Health Division’s Public Health Speakers Team: • Provides health educatjon presentatjons and resources that are current, reliable, and relevant to our community. • Is available at no charge to schools, churches, civic groups, social clubs, businesses, and other non-profjt organizatjons. • Is available during regular business hours; evening and weekend availability is limited and based on availability of the speaker. Please note, all requests are fulfjlled on a fjrst-come, fjrst-served basis, and not all requests can be accommodated due to general obligatjons and availability. We will do our best to accommodate your request. Requests must be submitued a minimum of 15 business days prior to the event. However, submittjng a request four weeks or more in advance will improve our ability to accommodate your needs. You will receive an e-mail acceptjng or declining your request within 5-7 business days. To request a speaker or to have OCHD atuend a health fair or event: • Review this brochure to determine the appropriate presentatjon for your group / audience. • Complete the on-line request form at www.oakgov.com/health. You will be contacted within 5-7 business days. Audience : Adults, community groups, agencies, and organizatjons whose clients can utjlize Public Health services Length : 45 – 60 minutes Disease Preventjon Services Communicable Learn how communicable diseases spread and how to avoid giving or receiving Disease them! Audience : Young adults through senior citjzens Length : 30 – 45 minutes Germ Busters / Discover why proper hand washing techniques are important, and learn helpful Handwashing techniques to prevent the spread of disease-causing germs. This presentatjon is appropriate for preschoolers through senior citjzens. Can be combined with the Communicable Disease presentatjon for adult audiences. Audience : All ages Length : 30 – 45 minutes Hepatjtjs A, B, & C This presentatjon covers the basic anatomy of the liver, testjng, diagnosing, treatment, infectjon, and resources for Hepatjtjs A, B, and C. Audience : Adults, adolescents (due to the sensitjve nature of the topic, presentatjon is not acceptable for children) Length : 60 minutes HIV/AIDS Subjects covered can vary from a very basic HIV 101 covering transmission, testjng, preventjon, myths, treatment, and resources. Also available for certain target populatjons are a history of HIV/AIDS, harm reductjon, efgects on aging populatjon, efgects on the body, triple diagnosis (HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, mental illness), and stjgma. Audience : Adults, adolescents (due to the sensitjve nature of the topic, presentatjon is not acceptable for children) Length : 60 minutes Immunizatjons Immunizatjons and the diseases they protect you from are discussed. (Adult, Adolescent, Immunizatjon requirements per the CDC guidelines as well as immunizatjon Child) requirements for schools are also covered. Audience : All ages Length : 30 – 45 minutes Infmuenza (Flu) What is the fmu and why do you need to get a fmu shot every year? Audience : All ages Length : 30 – 45 minutes Lyme Disease / A presentatjon on Lyme disease in Michigan, which includes distributjon in Ticks Michigan, transmission, disease characteristjcs, testjng and preventjon. Learn about transmission, laws to protect against illness, Oakland County Health Division’s outbreak investjgatjon process and who is involved. Audience : High school students, adults, professionals Length : 30 – 60 minutes Pertussis A presentatjon on pertussis (whooping cough), which includes disease characteristjcs, transmission, groups at high risk for serious illness, testjng, treatment, and preventjon. Audience : Adults, professionals Length : 30 minutes Rabies A presentatjon on rabies, which includes history, disease characteristjcs, transmission, testjng, treatment, and preventjon. Audience : Adults, animal control agencies, crituer control agencies, professionals Length : 30 minutes Sexually Cover all STIs including gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomoniasis, herpes, syphilis, Transmitued HPV, hepatjtjs, and HIV. Focus on symptoms, treatment, preventjon, and Infectjons resources. Audience : Adults, adolescents (due to the sensitjve nature of the topic, presentatjon is not acceptable for children) Length : 60 minutes Tuberculosis Learn about the history of TB as well as modern day efgorts to prevent, detect, and treat actjve TB disease. For professional audiences, data from local, state, natjonal, and global level will also be presented. Audience : Adults, professionals Length : 30 minutes Mosquito-Borne Learn how to protect yourself from West Nile Virus and other mosquito-borne Diseases diseases. PowerPoint presentatjon for ages 16+ and a modifjed version that includes a story and actjvity is available for younger audiences. Audience : All ages Length : 30 minutes 5

Learn how to protect yourself and your family before, during, and afuer biohazard events. Class will provide details about Public Health emergency response and what the community can do to protect themselves and stay informed. Learn about their history, life cycle and habits; how to identjfy them; and preventjon and eliminatjon recommendatjons. Audience : Adults Length : 30 – 45 minutes Beaches, Lakes, & How do I know if it is safe to swim at area beaches? Explanatjon of Oakland Streams County Health Division’s bathing beach program. Learn about water chemistry, common closure reasons, and maintenance. Become familiar with some types of recreatjonal water illness and preventjon tjps. Audience : Adults Length : 30 – 45 minutes Drinking Water & Learn about the difgerent components of a well and the role of the Health Wells Division in regulatjng wells in Oakland County and ensuring safe drinking water. Audience : General public Length : 30 minutes Environmental An overview of the role of Environmental Health Services in Oakland County: Health food service, drinking water, onsite wastewater, public swimming pools, public campgrounds, bathing beaches, and body art. Audience : Adults Length : 60 minutes Food Safety At Can your kitchen pass the food safety test? Learn about the four most important Home food safety steps and how to avoid foodborne illnesses.
