  14. NSC Placemaking Focus Areas Summaries 14

  15. Collaboration Team Placemaking • EWU Staff Interpreted Focus Area Results • Lists of desired Placemaking Features grouped into “buildable” concepts and space relationships • Created two products for Collaboration Team Workshop #4 • Product #1: “Matrix” • Focus Area Characteristics (for input) • Placemaking Program Matrix, Kit of Parts (DAG) Information • Focus Area Space Relationships • Product #2: larger and improved Focus Area Base Map • Collaboration Team worked on those products in Workshop #4: • Input characteristics, select relevant features and images, place links/DAG • Considered / edited Bubble Diagram • Located features on Map 15

  16. Focus Area Matrix example 16

  17. Collaboration Team Placemaking • EWU Staff Interpreted Workshop #4 Results • Added / subtracted desired Placemaking Features • Added Team comments to Matrix • Specified conceptual layouts incorporating features on Map • Used concepts to estimate construction costs • Assessed Design Assistance Guide (DAG) for “Place-Links” • Collaboration Team worked on those products in Workshop #5 • Reviewed EWU Staff work for errors & omissions • Reviewed estimated costs • Reviewed conceptual layouts • Performed initial prioritizations 17

  19. Focus Area Concepts example 19

  20. Collaboration Team Placemaking • EWU Staff Interpreted Workshop #5 Results • More formally drew desired Placemaking Features on Map • Corrected items as noted by Collaboration Team • Interpreted priorities • Collaboration Team employed this information to produce the displays for the Public Meeting • Identified items preferred by ALL, creating basic Placemaking Infrastructure (Priority 1) • Grouped “sub-features” and costs shown in Workshop #5 and calculated ranges of costs. Shown in Table on Display and in Surveys • Added top images representing concepts for features, focus area summary information & thematic characteristics from past work. 20

  21. Focus Area Concepts Display • Incorporated Matrix, Concepts, Feedback • Costs Categorized and expressed as a 30% +/- $range • Includes Focus Area Program Summary and Top Images from previous work • Conceptual feature drawn to scale for cost purposes – not a “design” 21

  22. Placemaking Focus Area Survey 22

  23. Focus Area Survey Results • Obtained citizen feedback regarding priorities for Focus Area features. • Respondents asked to rank 3-5 choices per Area • Paper Survey at Public Meeting and on-line via Survey Monkey (17-31October) • 153 total respondents / 143 completed • High Survey Monkey Score = Highest Priority 23

  38. Illinois Street Auxiliary Route • People were concerned about what would happen to the Illinois AV Auxiliary Route Features if they were on the 10% list. • There was a motion & positive vote to “take the Illinois Ave. Auxiliary Route Features to The City and the County.” … The community does not want to lose sight of this area. • Mr. Meuler agreed to be the champion at the City to help bring forth the Collaboration Team comments about the Illinois Ave. Auxiliary Route Features. • Additional comments for The City to enhance the East/West connection- “to improve Euclid and Regal” or improve sidewalks on west side of Greene Street. Louise replied that there are already bike lanes. • Support for original WSDOT concept for West Side of Greene • Very Important issue 38
