What does ERIC North East do… We work with recorders and recording groups to collate wildlife records and habitat data for the region Hold over 2.5 million species records Promote wildlife recording across the region and encourage more people to become involved Funded through grants, service level agreements and fees from one-off data requests
What area does ERIC cover?
Where does the data come from? • Voluntary recording community • Wildlife groups and societies • Organisations who collect ecological data as part of their normal business Without their hard work, we would know far less about the natural world than we do today.

Who uses the information? Ecological consultants Nature conservation organisations Local authorities Wildlife recorders and recording groups Academics
Who uses the information? 500 requests for data to inform planning applications and development 34 requests for ecological data to inform biodiversity and conservation projects across the region Data supplied to inform 10 academic research projects Informed the work of 6 local authorities and 2 government agencies

Small Grants £2,000 pot To fund volunteer recording which improves the quality, quantity or coverage of voluntary recording in the North East . • • • Wylam Community Orchard – invertebrate surveying & resources • • Local bat recorder – bat surveying equipment • Northumberland Wildlife Trust - entomology identification training • North East Dormouse Project – dormouse survey equipment • Northumberland & Tyneside Bird Club - "Birds of Northumbria" atlas • Durham Wildlife Trust – otter survey
Plans for 2015… Continuously working on improving data management and quality Work more closely with ecological consultants to improve our data services Promote new online wildlife recording portal Launch mammal recording app with Newcastle College
