I hope that you’ve been received royally, at the end of your journey to this historic building – The White Horse Hotel – here in the very centre of all that is quintessentially English… Dorking, the jewel in the Mole Valley! It’s so lovely to see many familiar faces gathered together… as well as new ones Welcome to the Trentham Invest Family! Breaking With Precedent Now… It may be 4 years since we last created the opportunity to meet with everyone… It may be 3 years since the opening of our spanking new, custom-designed office suite… However, Before I introduce our guest speaker, Charles Payne… I’m going to enjoy breaking a few rules and protocols. (Pause here) I’m going to do away with what’s often expected from speakers… Firstly (you’ll be delighted to hear)… I’m not going to start my comments with a joke! If you’d like a truly good chuckle this week… I strongly recommend that you see the film “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”. You’ll love it! And I’d like NOT to spend time speaking about a financial environment that we’ve all had explained to us in a million different ways since 2008 Instead… I’d like to start where – I believe – all discussion about services should start I’d like to start by talking about YOU. Incidentally, if you’ve ever watched the film ‘The Bucket List’ , you’ll know exactly why I say this. (And if you haven’t… then I recommend it!) Firstly, They’ve talked about planning A Life Worth Living 1. (By that I mean, a fulfilling, enjoyable, rewarding life) o Secondly, They’ve talked about Relationships Worth Nurturing 2. (By that I mean, helping their loved ones: both their parents o preceding them, and their children following them) Thirdly, They’ve talked about their desire to Make A Difference 3. (By that I mean, leaving a legacy, touching other lives… beyond o their immediate family. There’s Karen … with her brilliance in creating systems, which deliver client promises (over 3,000 of them… year in, year out) There’s Mark … your main point of contact when handling the meticulous implementation of those matters you and I have discussed and decided There’s Peter … introduced to us by one of my Business Mentors, David Scarlett… and whose marketing skills and financial skills are transforming the way we present our services to our clients There’s Deborah … my excellent temporary administrator, paving the way for the newest member of the team And there’s Jackie … fresh and innocent to TI, and just day 4 finding her feet during her first week! _________________________________________________________________ However, the team we use to constantly improve our service to you, exists outside of our own office. Included in that team are the fund managers and researchers who put into practice the investment philosophy which cares for your wealth. __________________________________________________________________ This evening, I’ve asked Charles Payne to join us. Charles is Director of Fidelity’s Global and US Equity Products. His real passion started with rocks and fossils. Archaeology, Cambridge University no less. Through his need to analyze a lot of data about rocks and fossils efficiently, was introduced to the new age of computing in the 1970’s.   7. Charles soon realized that if you’re not an expert in something, which for him at the time was finance, the only way to make sense of it is to put it into a language that you understand. So this evening, Charles is now going to explain, not in fossil, but in plain English, the world of finance, particularly the problems we as investors face today, 2012. Many of us measure the success of our portfolios by its ability to out-perform inflation, year in, year out, and if it’s NOT outperforming inflation, year in, year out, then we conclude the investment is not working, and so naturally feel we want to fix it, by doing something different. 1.
