New Officer I & II Program Review Instructors • New Instructors-Instructor II, Officer II to teach both programs, 5 years as an officer, Pre-Test of 80%+, TtT, 16 hours shadowing • Current Instructors-Everything remains the same. Officer I requires Officer I, Instructor II. Officer II requires Officer II and Instructor II

  2. New Officer I & II Program Review Officer I: • 19 Chapters • Each chapter will require students to do homework that will be due prior to next class session. Homework will be the same for the Commonwealth to deliver. Enhance by adding tests/quizzes/forums with Navigate 2 (Instructor discretion) • Pre-course qualifications stay the same • 44 hours + Final Exam • Recommending 2 instructors for 8 hour sessions. 1 instructor for 4 hour

New Officer I & II Program Review Officer I: • All assignments by due date or within 5 days after course completion (stuff happens!) or retake entire Officer I course • Student will have 90 days to make-up a missed session within the Commonwealth. Student cannot final test until made-up session is completed.

Officer II: • All chapters except 3 & 12 • 24 hour course (6 four-hour sessions) • All classes will be at least 1 ½ weeks from each other • Student will have 90 days to make-up a missed session with the Commonwealth. Student cannot final test until made-up session is completed. • Candidate’s failing to successfully complete the Homework Assignments within 5 days after course completion will be required to retake the entire Officer I certification course. (No exceptions!)

  5. Officer III & IV

  6. Officer III Instructor • Instructor II, with Fire Officer III and hold the rank (equivalent of) Chief Officer in their organization , or validated and approved by the appropriate Division Chief. It is desirable for the potential instructor to have coursework from an institution of higher learning and demonstrate the ability to evaluate research papers.

  7. Officer III • 11 Chapters • 40 hours (5-eight hour sessions) • Homework/Group Projects/Research Papers remain for Commonwealth • Navigate 2 will only be used as a forum (Instructor Discretion) • Student will have 90 days to make-up a missed session within the Commonwealth. If no class is available, will allow eligibility until the next class is offered

  8. Officer IV Instructor • Instructor II, with Fire Officer IV and hold the rank (equivalent of) Chief Officer in their organization , or validated and approved by the appropriate Division Chief. It is desirable for the potential instructor to have coursework from an institution of higher learning and demonstrate the ability to evaluate research papers. • Classroom instruction requires two (2) qualified instructors to deliver the training program. (The VDFP Officer IV Review Committee recommends two (2) qualified instructors during any consecutive 8-hour block.)

  9. Officer IV • 9 Chapters (Omit Chapters 1-Leadership and 10-Code Enforcement) • 32 hours (4-eight hour sessions) • Guest Speakers will continue • Group Projects/Individual Homework remain • Navigate 2 will only be used as a forum (Instructor Discretion) • Students will have 90 days to submit final paper after class ends • If a student misses a session, they will need to make the session up in another course or spend up to 8 hours with the discipline that was missed (HR, Emergency Management, Health & Safety, etc). A Training Validation Form will be submitted to the Division Office.
