Rural WASH Sub-Sector Road Map-2013:  Deepen the rejuvenation of and resuscitation of sector institutions and coordination mechanisms. • Revive and capacitate WASH structures and systems at all levels.  Strengthening Sector Information Systems. • Completing VBCI in the remaining Provinces. • National VBCI report • Functional Rural WASH Data Base at all levels  Operationalisation of the Sanitation and Hygiene Strategy • Demand Led Sanitation-Focused PHHE • Piloting of the uBVIP • Advocacy for Sanitation and Hygiene  Rehabilitation and New Water Infrastructure:  Drilling of new boreholes  Rehabilitation of water points both hand pumps and piped water schemes.  PPP-Supply Chain for WASH spares and materials.  Strengthening of CBM.

  5. ACTIVITIES: • Rehabilitation of non functional water points • Capacity enhancement of district and sub- district structures. • Demand Led Sanitation

Information and Knowledge Management: • $0.5m from MoF is to cover 16 Districts • Outputs from the process are district VBCI reports and district databases linked to province and national levels. • SNV and GRM have supported the process of developing a National Rural WASH Database. • NCU and UNICEF are working to establish a link between the WASH database and WASH Atlas.

  7. KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT: Sector Website www.ncuwash.org  Support from ECHO through facilitation from GAA  Website is going to play a dual role.  Digital library.  Interactive tool for updating of sector database.  Work in progress through the same support is internet connectivity to NCU for easier updating of the website and its subsequent launch. Field Technical Notes for WASH Facilities.  Objective is to improve workmanship with WASH structures.  Target group include Local Community Based Artisans and Extension Workers.

Policy and Strategy Development:  Water Policy:  Policy-Passed through cabinet and was endorsed late last year.  Endorsed document with the MoWRDM for reproduction.  Guidelines for Hygiene Promotion in Urban Areas.  Developed by Urban Emergency Rehab Taskforce  Document with NAC for adoption.  WASH Cluster to review the document and profer comments.  Sanitation and Hygiene Taskforce meeting on the 7 th of February to review the document.  Document to be shared through the Cluster Chair for commending.
