  3. The BIG Picture See the forest (and not the trees) as you begin. Think about your values, goals, and expectations for higher education. Gather information straight from the source. Itemize your priorities and the information you obtain as a way to stay organized. Be consistent throughout the process when you communicate outwardly with individual campuses.

  4. About those applications… Pinpoint what each campus wants (and does not want ) from applicants. Wrap your arms around their deadlines as early as possible. Be specific with your essay, your extra-curricular activities, etc. Do optional! Timing is everything (kind of…)

  5. More food for thought Independent Educational Consultants. The “helicopter” parent(s). Test prep classes, books, etc. Establish a point of contact for each school. Help your student explore options, even if some aren’t your (first) preference.
