Conseil des arts de Montréal International Creation Residency 1. WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE APPLYING? 1.1. WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY? Montreal-based professional musicians. 1 1.2. WHAT DISCIPLINES QUALIFY Music. 1.3. WHAT MANDATES QUALIFY? Creation/production. 1.4. WHAT TYPES OF PROJECTS QUALIFY? The project is a four-week creation residency that will take place from June 19 to July 20, 2020 as part of the 7 th edition of the Festival Afropolitain nomade which is being held this year in Rwanda from July 7 to July 11. 1.5. HOW MANY APPLICATIONS WILL BE APPROVED? Five finalists will be selected to be interviewed by the jury. One of these will be awarded the residency. 1.6. WHAT TYPE OF SUPPORT IS PROVIDED? The successful applicant will benefit from: • a four-week residency in Kigali, Rwanda; • a $5,000 grant to cover the artist’s fee and travel expenses (see sections 4.2 and 4.4); • a pre-trip information session; • networking in Kigali with local and international presenters. 1.7. WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW WHEN APPLYING FOR THE FIRST TIME? First-time applicants are urged to contact the Conseil staff in charge of the residency program to clarify the eligibility and evaluation criteria as well as other details (see section 10, HOW CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION ON THIS PROGRAM). 1.8. WHAT IS THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS? March 6, 2020 . 1.9. WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM? This program is intended to: • promote the international presence of Montreal-based professional musicians; • disseminate the works of Montreal-based professional musicians; • provide a Montreal musician with opportunities to network with producers, cultural operators and promoters on the Rwandan arts scene; • provide the artist with opportunities to network with musicians from abroad; • allow the artist to create, with the support of the Festival Afropolitain nomade team, a musical work up to forty-five minutes long that will be presented at the Festival’s closing concert; 1 Terms shown in blue are found in the CAM glossary at: www.artsmontreal.org/en/glossary Program Presentation: International Creation Residency Page 2 of 8 28/01/2020

WHAT CONDITIONS MUST BE MET IN ORDER TO APPLY? 2.1. GENERAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS Status and conditions • must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada; • must have resided on the Island of Montreal for at least the past year. Professionalism • must be recognized as a professional artists by his/her peers; • must have created at least one work that was presented in a professional context. 3. WHO IS NOT ELIGIBLE TO APPLY AND WHY? 3.1. INELIGIBLE APPLICANTS • artistic organizations, incorporated or not, and artist collectives; • individual artists who do not meet the general eligibility criteria. 3.2. APPLICATIONS THAT WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED • incomplete applications; • applications received after the deadline. 4. WHAT ARE THE SPECIFIC DETAILS OF THIS PROGRAM? 4.1. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM? The Conseil des arts de Montréal and the Festival Afropolitain nomade are pooling their resources to promote cultural exchanges and the transfer of expertise and develop new international markets for Montreal-based professional musicians. 4.2. FOR HOW LONG IS THE SUPPORT PROVIDED? The support under this program is one-time and non-recurring. The international creation residency will take place in Kigali, Rwanda, during the four-week period from June 19 to July 20, 2020. Conseil des arts de Montréal International Creation Residency 4.3. WHAT DOES THE SUPPORT CONSIST OF? 4.3.1. Financial and service support • A $5,000 grant to cover: o artist’s fee, o per diems, o international flights, o travel visa, o vaccinations, o insurance, o instrument transportation and insurance (where applicable), o entry fees for the Festival Afropolitain nomade. • Accommodation and local transportation costs in Kigali during the four-week residency will be covered by the Festival Afropolitain nomade. • Pre-trip information session. 5. HOW ARE APPLICATIONS EVALUATED? Applications will be evaluated by a jury of peers from the Conseil des arts de Montréal and the Festival Afropolitain nomade. All projects will be evaluated on merit and the selection will take into account the relative value of the projects. 5.1. WHAT ARE THE EVALUATION CRITERIA? The jury will take into account the program objectives as well as the following criteria: → Artistic merit and interest: 45% • Quality and merit of the artistic proposal; • Demonstrable impact of the creation residency on the artist’s career; → Visibility for the artist: 45% ● Significant impact on the artist’s artistic approach; ● Potential for promoting Montreal’s music scene abroad; → Management and administration: 10% ● Artist’s ability to effectively manage his/her activities and successfully complete projects; ● Ability to work in collaboration with various partners. 5.2. HOW ARE DECISIONS MADE? 5.2.1. What is the evaluation procedure? A four-step process 1. Interviews of finalists by jury members; 4. Selection of one finalist to be awarded the residency. 5.2.2. Who else has access to my application? If necessary for evaluation purposes, the Conseil may consult with other organizations involved in the program or outside experts. 5.2.3. Is the information in my application and attachments kept confidential? The Conseil guarantees the confidentiality of all personally identifiable information in its possession and restricts access to all confidential documents it receives, with the exception of cases subject to the provisions of the Act respecting the Protection of Personal Information in the Private Sector (Chapter P-39.1) . 6. HOW DO I FILE AN APPLICATION? 6.1. WHAT FORMAT IS USED FOR APPLICATIONS? Go to our website at www.artsmontreal.org/fr/orora and follow the instructions on how to complete an application for financial support. You will be asked to create or update your profile (as applicable), after which you will have access to your application history and your prior correspondence with the Conseil. WHY DO I HAVE TO FILL IN A SELF-IDENTIFICATION FORM? The Conseil compiles data from the self-identification form to use for analysis, research and/or evaluation purposes. These statistics are also consulted for program management purposes as well as financial and service allocations. 6.3.1. Where do I find the form? You’ll find a link to the self-identification form on your profile on ORORA at: https://orora.smartsimple.ca/ 6.3.2. How are the data managed? Pursuant to the Act respecting the Protection of Personal Information in the Private Sector (Chapter P-39.1), all data collected are kept confidential. Data are managed and used only by Conseil employees who require access to this personal information in order to properly do their jobs.
