  5. Study Goals 1. Identify and assess the feasibility of potential locations for a multi-modal facility 2. Evaluate potential reductions to commuter traffic 3. Select a preferred location using a detailed evaluation process 4. Inform future planning and funding efforts for a multi-modal facility 5

  6. Study Process Process: • Identify potential site locations • Estimate ridership and congestion relief • Evaluate site locations based on evaluation criteria • Identify a preferred multi-modal facility site Schedule – 5 months (June to October 2017) Funding - Caltrans and SACOG grant 6

  7. Community Outreach Two Open Houses • August 2, 2017 • Tonight (September 14, 2017) Two Online Forums • August 2 – 16 (Questionnaire) • September 14 – 21 (Comment Forum) City Council Briefing on August 23 rd Study Presented to City Council on October 25 th 7

  9. What is a Multi-Modal Facility? Many modes of transportation in one place, such as: • Bus • Rail • Car and Bicycle Parking • Pick-up/Drop-off • Taxi/Lyft/Uber/Shuttle • Bicycle Facilities • Pedestrian Facilities 9

  10. Benefits of a Multi-Modal Facility • Provides centralized access to bus & rail transit • Improves connectivity between modes • Enhances access to transportation alternatives which can reduce traffic, commute times & emissions • Potential to generate economic development activity 10

  11. Site Requirements Adjacent to rail corridor • Space for 1,000-foot long platform along tracks • 5-10 acres for facilities including parking • Connectivity to existing transportation system • Prefer vacant lots or lots with low real estate impacts • Minimize risk of environmental issues (e.g. wetlands, soil • contamination) Avoid excessive construction/site design costs • 11

  12. Four Sites Considered 12

  13. Feedback from Previous Community Outreach Open House #1 (8/2) • Project costs • Project funding Online survey (8/2 to 8/16) • Accessibility • Travel time to destinations • Proximity of drop off to destinations 13

  14. Detailed Evaluation Criteria • Rail service feasibility • Other risk factors • Site adequacy for • Congestion relief multimodal use • Changes to bus • Grant potential network • Accessibility • Nearby bus and bike • Ridership estimation facilities • Site acquisition • Opportunity for feasibility supporting uses • Cost 14

  15. Preferred Site Location #1 15

  16. Preferred Site Location #1 • High feasibility of providing rail service on corridor • Can accommodate all identified multimodal uses • Aligns well with grant application criteria • Easily accessible from existing roadway, bike, pedestrian networks • Parcel acquisition required • Lower environmental risk factors • Estimated cost of $20 to $25 Million 16

  17. Next Steps 9/14 to 9/21 - Online Comment Period 10/25 - City Council Approval of Study 17
