  2. DENSITY INTRODUCTION Morely Memorial School operate across a dual site – RECEPTION SCHOOL albeit separated by a relatively narrow and quiet road 312 sqm for 60 children - Blinco Grove. However this still presents a physical 2.6 sqm / child divide and the following sketches, prepared by Rodic Davidson Architects, consider some architectural pos- PRIMARY SCHOOL sibilities for the school. The sketches illustrate some 2062 sqm for 360 children concept design options and are intended solely to 5.7 sqm / child form the basis for further discussions. 2

  3. SCHEME 1 SCHEME 2 SCHEME 3 SCHEME 4 SCHEME 5 3 SCHEME 6

  4. SCHEME 1 The proposal for scheme 1 involves the extension of the main hall to the north building providing sepa- rate entrance for evening recitals the new extension would accommodate. A staff work place, cloak room, wc appended to a large double height room which alts as a multifunc- tional “interaction” space. NEW FUNCTION ROOM 4

  5. SCHEME 2 The proposal for scheme 2 involves the construction of a new stage at the rear of the main hall, thereby increasing the usability of the space for children performances and practice. Also provided in this volume is the separately ac- cessible storage and secondary access point to the main hall. This then allows the hall to function independently from the school. SMALL INTERVENTION - BIG RETURN 5

  6. SCHEME 3 The proposal for scheme 3 involves the construc- tion of a canopy to the games area at the rear of the north building. This structure will provide shelter from the elements and seating to encourage a social gathering point. It allows a waiting point for children at the end of the school day and family to view games and competi- tions held at the school. SIGNAL FOR ENTRANCE 6

  7. SCHEME 4 The proposal for scheme 4 involves the creation of two new entrances to both the south building and the north building. The deployment of a similar architectural language and complimentary material will create a visual link between the two separate sites and provide an in- viting space for people to congregate during drop off and collection times in the school day. VISUAL LINK AND SIGNAL + 7

  8. SCHEME 5 The proposal for scheme 5 involves the refurbish- ment of the existing WC at the south building games area and the construction of a new pavilion and new entrance from Baldock way. The newly self contained games area privately hired events thereby generating additional revenue for the school. The pavilion can fold open offering facilities such as kitchenette, power points lights and chairs to aid social events then at the end of the event it can fold up to provide secure storage until the next event. SPORT AREA FOR SCHOOL + PRIVATED 8

  9. SCHEME 6 This proposal involves the construction of additional class room space and ancillary space for the recep- tion school. As a completely separate stand alone building this intervention has the capacity to take on a new ar- chitectural language, providing a colorful interactive facade. The main design concept derives from the lack of play equipment, where a facade could solve this weakness by offering a play element along this ex- terior walls. SCHOOL TURN AROUND THE PATIO 9
