Philosophy Recruiting - • Get Recruited in Five Easy Steps by Trevor Tierney “ Two people are in control of whether or not a player gets recruited for college. ” 1 st person is the player – how hard he works at his game, how passionate he is about it and how much of a priority he makes it in his life 2 nd person is the COLLEGE Coach – he knows exactly what type of player and people he is looking for 1. You have to be the best player that you can possibly be • Division 1 lacrosse takes the top 1% of all lacrosse players • What you lack in talent can be made up with desire, hustle and giving 110% • Earn the respect of your coaches by knowing the playbook better than any other player, study film and become film room junkie 2. You have to go where the coaches are • Align yourself with a good organized club team that goes to reputable tournaments • Club coaches can be a great support and liaison between college coaches and players 3. Seeing who has serious interest in you as a player • Understand the difference between being recruited and a coach showing interest • Coaches are watching and observing everything you do and who you are with 4. Respond back to the coaches that reach out to you • If a coach sends you anything, use his as an opportunity to reach back out. Send him back an e- mail with a link to your highlight film • When contacting coaches find out the assistant coach that is in charge of recruiting 5. Congratulations if you made it this far! • Decision making time – choose the right school for you, not the one showing the most interest
Philosophy Practices - • We firmly believe that our practices translate into habits, which in turn prepare our players for both success on and off the field • We will implement multiple drills, routines and offensive/defensive strategies used by some of the best high schools and colleges in the country • We will develop scripted practice schedules for each and every practice o We will plan out every minute of every practice, so it is critical to make sure you are on-time • We are investing a lot of time, preparation and energy into each and every practice … miss a day miss a lot! • Practice times o We will be setting the practice schedule one week at a time o 6:45 to 8:45 will be the time slot for most of our season o We will practice rain or shine
Philosophy Practices - • We expect every player to be on-time, ready to play for every practice and game o If practice starts at 6:45pm that means we expect each player to be dressed and ready to go at 6:45pm o Any missed practices or games must be approved by the coaches o Excused absence – If you are too sick to come to school then you are too sick to practice or play in a game o Examples of unexcused absences: I have tickets to a Cavs Game I have dodge ball I have a date with my girlfriend I have a driving test o Get your homework completed in between the end of school and practice
Philosophy Conditioning - • Our drills are set up to constantly move during practice and we expect our players to run from drill to drill • We want to maximize every minute of every practice, to take time to run laps or get players in shape we feel is counter-productive o The only time we will run as team is if we feel that discipline is needed o We may ask players to run laps on an individual basis as a form of discipline or to get focused Commitment - • Team First o We believe in playing as a team, which means no one is more important than the team o We will win as a team and lose as a team o We expect 100% effort out of every player
Philosophy Leadership & Culture - • We believe that team chemistry is crucial for the short-term and long-term success of this program • It starts with the coaches but needs to come from players • Everyone needs to be on the same page • The success of the 2014 Season will be determined by the Leadership on this team • If we can become a cohesive unit we can accomplish our goal this year of winning a State Championship
Philosophy Playing Time - • Playing to Win – Our goal is to win a State Championship o We may ask certain players to switch positions o We will play the best players regardless of grade • Grievances - We ask that you please understand that we have only the best interest of the team in mind o We would prefer to handle all issues coach to player o During the season we will not discuss Playing Time with any Parent o During a game the field and bench area is reserved for team personnel only
