MISSION The mission of iConquer is not to change habits but to create habits.
VISION The vision of iConquer is to see a world where the risk of obesity and diabetes is greatly reduced in the adolescent population.
FACTS • If a child is overweight at the age of 3 years or above it is eight times more likely to become overweight as an adult. • After the age of five, a habit is already developed. • Some children have neophobia (the fear of new foods), so it may take 18 to 50 exposures (or even more) to a food before they try it!
FACTS • By 2030, 366 million people will be affected diabetes, compared to the year 2000 when only 171 million people were affected. • In the past, it was believed that if a food is bitter it may be poisonous. Today, some kids still follow this philosophy. • It is predicted that by the year 2030 more than half of America’s population will be obese.
GOALS • We will try to help lower obesity and diabetes rates by 2030. • We will try to change the food kids eat, from unhealthy to healthy. • We will attempt to alter the lifestyle and health choices of children in positive manners.
GOALS • We want to see school lunches with nutritious foods. • We would like to change the meaning of “snack” from chips and candy to fruits and vegetables. • We would like to see little kids asking their parents for healthy and wholesome snacks.
WHY iCONQUER? • Obesity typically starts around the age of 5. • Current programs that help raise awareness about diabetes and obesity prevention target children too late (11 years and on). • iConquer will target children from the ages of 3-6, and help tackle the issue of obesity and diabetes before it becomes a problem.
IMPLEMENTATION • This will be a project implemented at various pre-schools and elementary schools. With the help of middle, high school, and university students, iConquer will capture the attention of young children through the use of: a unique music video (“Conquered”) an animated movie with fun characters an interactive puppet show a fun dance for kids exercise routines portion plates
