  3. A gre eat season for the Com mets Club w with 7 of ou ur 9 teams making the e finals, 3 ge etting to th he Grand Fi nal & 1 eve entual Prem miers! We also took o out the Clu b Champio nship again n, so a great t effort by a all. I wou uld like to t take this tim me to than k our very hard worki ng Committ tee, Larrain ne for her w work with k keeping us a all fed, and Jimmy & D ru for prese enting us w ith the best t field to pl ay on each week. Cong gratulations s to Lauren McGrath fo or making th he National l Women’s Baseball te am & comp peting in Ca anada, winn ning the bes st ERA in the e tourname ent in the pr rocess. This season also o saw us do away with the Pub Ra affle. In exc change we h have been doing the B Bunnings BB BQ and it h as been we ell ‐ received and a new w process w will be in pla ace at the s start of next t season. We a also had ou r first winte er Trivia nig ght, after a 10 year abs sence. It w was a great n night, and brought ba ack memori es of Trivia a Nights at Bonnet Bay y Public Sch hool which were also a lot of fun . Paul & Steve a lso ran a r raffle throu ughout the season. Th hank you to o your fam mily & frien ds who pu rchased tic kets, the fu unds raised d have gone e directly to owards our r new batti ng cage. I wou uld also like e to announ nce that the e batting ca ge will be n named in ho onour of the e late Ray Meagher. Ray was o n the comm mittee for 8 years an d also spen nt 14 years s as a coac h of both ju unior and se enior teams s. He was a a Life Memb ber of Come ets and put t a lot of tim me into our r club and w we are very y grateful fo or that. Th e Executive e could not think of a m more fitting g person to name the l atest additi ion to our fa acilities afte er. 5 th , so pleas Com ets AGM ha as been sch eduled for October 15 e help if yo ou can. This s year also sees Graha am Grigg ha and in the Secretary r role so we’ ’re looking for someo ne to take on that jo b. Graham previously y was Presid dent for 7 years but p put his han nd up again n when we e were unab ble to fill t his position n last seaso on. Hopefu ully this wi ll not happ pen again. In clo osing, good luck in wh atever you choose to do in the o ff season a nd I will se e you all ne ext winter. Jason n Noye, Pre esident Pa ge | 3

  4. The 2012 seaso on was a l ittle disjoin nted, to sa y the least t, with just t as many byes, wash houts and f forfeits as actual gam mes played. Neverthe less the tea am manag ed to string g enough w wins togeth er to finish h the season n in 2nd pla ace and bo ook the first t spot into t the Grand F Final. The t team in gen neral hit qu uite well, wi ith Jas Mac c providing a lot of the e extra base e hits, Lip h hitting laser s and Kegg a, Kerro, Ch hoat and Ch hoc proving g very consi istent and t tough in clu utch situati ions. With respect to o power, Th he ‘Element t’ lived up t to his own hype and w was rather courteous to the neig ghbors in hit tting it ove r the left fie eld townho ouses, an a lmighty sho ot by all ac counts and d the big fe lla was rep ortedly see en tweeting g that very fact during g his slow trot around d 3rd base . Other t han that h he was rela tively subd dued by his lofty stand dards havin ng limited h himself to o only swingi ng at 330% % and takin ng a knee n no more tha an once per r plate app earance. The heavy hitters club b also inclu ded Brothe ers McMast ter, with Li ip getting t the team’s one and o nly Grand Slam. Kegg ga and Meag ghery also w went yard. Just as con spicuous w was what did dn't happen n with Nick 'College' Po ontifex fallin ng short of his projecte ed six home e runs, but only by six. Less surpr rising was F Fanno's pow wer slump e entering its 19th year. Mat Crook aga ain excelled d in all fac cets of the e game. His hitting was extre emely cons istent, his b base runnin ng exemplar ry and his a arm the fea r of all base e runners. Maty anaged to at on ne point ha d a 7 at ba t hitting str reak and m provide the e spark for many rallie es througho out the seas on. Well do one Mathew w on anoth er fine seas son. A rej juvenated G Gump woun nd back the e clock and showed us all that per rhaps he ha as not yet f finished 'm making histo ory'. Sever ral quality starts thro oughout the e season le ed to victo ories. Gum p was com plimented by new bo y Nick who o was also v very effect ive in shutt ting down opposition hitters an d also bas e runners, with those e picks tha t still make e opponent ts cry 'Balk' after all th hese years. He would do well to relax a bit more thou gh and no t be so up ptight and h highly strun ng. Gump and Ponti were also o well supp ported by th he ever cons sistent Kerr ro who neve er failed to bamboozle e opponents s with his c curve and a also his bre aking ball. This was w when he wa as not enjo oying the la ack of scrut tiny on play yers smokin g in uniform m. As is always the e case in thi s game we all love, the ere were se everal incide ents that pr roved amus sing and/or r notewort hy. Meaghe ery was re markably r estrained a and gentlem manly when n called out t for batting g out of a bo ox that didn n't exist. In w what shape ed as the lik keliest eject tion scenari io of the se eason, Andr rew mainta ained his co omposure a and took th e call on t he chin, as s did Jas M Mac, when adopting an ‘anythin ng but glov ve’ approac ch to stopp ping ground ders one W Wintery afte ernoon at M McLaughlin . After Jas s made a su uperb put o out having k knocked the e ball down n with his fa ace, Consta ble Ball ma de a specta acular over head catch running ba ck into the left field Bu ullpen for a very quick 2 outs. Th at we then gave up a round 8 ru ns in the re emainder o of the innin ngs remains s a mystery y, in a game e that was c certainly th e one that g got away. Pa ge | 4

  5. Other memorable plays included Maty's forced play at the plate, a lesson to all youngsters of what not to do; Gump's no ball tag and cart wheeling base running, Shoei's agility at first base, Choat's two error play and Choc incredibly ending up in Jannali Reserve whilst fielding a ball from centre field hit to centre left at Bonnet Bay. One for the ages. Special thanks to Captain Kegga for his tireless work behind the scenes, Shoei for his guidance, aura and Shoeiness, and also to our scorer Larraine. Also many thanks to all our wives, girlfriends, parents, & kids who come along to the games for a laugh. Let’s do it again! Fanno. Page | 5

  6. So ne ear, but ye t so far. Ou ur season c came down to the last game of th he year wh here a win w would have e gotten us s a place in n the semi ‐ f finals. Unfo ortunately i it was not t to be going g down in a a close game e to Arncliff fe Scots. It wa as an up and d down sea son which s started off w with us bein ng over ‐ grad ded in 1st G Grade wher re we strug ggled to com mpete. Afte r the Assoc ciation came e to their se enses and p put us back k into 2nd G Grade it too k us couple e of weeks t to regroup before we put our firs st win on th he board. T The rest of the season saw us be come a ver ry competit tive team w where we a at stages lo oked like w we could tro ouble any s side in the competitio n. David Da aniels was a real stan d out. He p pitched bril liantly for t the whole s season, bei ing the only y real start ing pitcher we had, ca arried the s side and to iled away w week in we eek out thro owing over 1200 pitch hes and rack king up a lo ot of strike o outs. Our la ack of depth h in the pit tching ranks s and some e below par r defence at t times didn n't help our r cause; erro ors costing us at cruci ial times in games. On n a positive e note there e were 2 p layers; Mar rty McDona ald at Shor t Stop, and Deryk Prou udlock, at C Centre Field d, that went t through th he entire se eason witho out recordi ing a single e error. The e hitting as s a whole was quiet pleasing fo or the seaso on with ev erybody co ontributing with the b bat at certa ain times. M Marty McDo onald lead the way w ith a strong g batting av verage, clos ely followe d by newco omer to the e club Dani el Accuri, S Stuart Jack son and D avid Danie ls Thanks g guys for a most enjo yable seaso on. I wo uld like to send out a a massive t hank you t to both Jim m and Carol McDonald d who were e there eve ery week he elping us o out with Jim m coaching and Carol doing all o of the scori ng (no wo nder Marty y went thro ough the s season erro orless and w won the ba atting avera age ‐ just kid dding Marty y). People l like you, wh ho do so mu uch for the team, mak ke it a lot e easier to co ncentrate o on just play ying and en njoying the game. I wo ould also li ke to than k Deryk Pro oudlock wh ho managed d the side, hounded t he players for money each week k and made e sure the u umpires got t paid. Last ly a big tha nk you to P Peter Boots s who helpe ed us out t he back en d of the se eason when were shor t for numb bers and als o the othe r guys that helped out earlier on i in the seaso on.
