MicroBooNEs Beam Timing Improvements 2015-2016: MicroBooNE ( B) - PowerPoint PPT Presentation

Shutdown 2016: MicroBooNEs Beam Timing Improvements 2015-2016: MicroBooNE ( B) took its first year of data using the same triggering signals as MiniBooNE NuMI BNB - TCLK $1D + $1F coincidence for BNB double check with BNB

  1. Shutdown 2016: MicroBooNE’s Beam Timing Improvements • 2015-2016: MicroBooNE ( μ B) took it’s first year of data using the same triggering signals as MiniBooNE NuMI BNB - TCLK $1D + $1F coincidence for BNB ‣ double check with BNB resistive wall monitor (RWM) - $A9 for NuMI MB • 2015: I asked how precisely we knew neutrino arrival. μB - Neutrinos interacting in material upstream of the detector can eject neutrons which enter μ B and mimic important physics signals. MI-12 MI-8 ‣ The main handle on these neutrons will be their late arrival (> MI-10 4-22 ns). • What I learned from folks at AD: MI-60 - TCLK has intrinsic 100 ns jitter. (the above study would be impossible) - Also learned that $1F may unwittingly get bumped by 1.2 μ s! ( μ B miss 75% of BNB spill! and not know!) - Also learned that NuMI has a RWM too… Tia Miceli - postdoc NMSU

  2. Shutdown 2016: MicroBooNE’s Beam Timing Improvements • Replace μ B’s NuMI trigger TCLK $A9 to MIBS $74 - Thanks to M. Kucera for installing MIBS At MicroBooNE mezzanine in μ B’s I.R.M. $1D + $1F • Replace μ B’s BNB trigger TCLK $1D + $1F 100 ns from TCLK to BES gated w/ $1D! - Thanks to B. Pellico for solution with Tawzer and CAMAC 055. - Thanks to G. Vogel and crew for set-up in MI-12. BES + $1D - Thanks to G. Brown for orchestrating fiber- path to μ B. • Deliver NuMI RWM to μ B. Much more precise triggering for MicroBooNE! - Thanks to P. Adamson for aiding. - Thanks to G. Brown for orchestrating the fiber-path. • Simplified BNB RWM path to μ B. Tia Miceli - postdoc NMSU

  3. Shutdown 2016: MicroBooNE’s Beam Timing Improvements • A huge THANK YOU to External Beams, Proton Source, and Controls Departments for making this improvement possible! - Help from C. Moore, T. Kobilarcik, and M. Backfish have enabled MicroBooNE to precisely determine beam timing. - These improvements are needed for ‣ Understanding beam-induced neutron backgrounds - Neutral Current Elastic cross-section measurements ‣ Kaon decay at rest from NuMI dump ‣ Capability to reduce cosmogenic backgrounds by tightening trigger window. • Improves triggering and timing for μ B, and the entire Short Baseline Neutrino Program Tia Miceli - postdoc NMSU
